Since when did Brian Voss become a free agent? I noticed he was throwing Storm/Roto at the USBC Senior Masters a week ago. Just curious on when he left 900 Global's staff. Is Robert Smith still on staff with them?

900 Global is not product registered so Voss wouldn't be throwing their equipment as I believe they still have to abide by PBA product registration requirements.  RS I believe is still with them.  Someone on here mentioned that RS is doing some videos for them for their new equipment.

Robert Smith is still with them and he has been working on the Global Elements line.

Here is some more detail on how this concept came about and how it relates to choosing the right ball based on motion.

Brian Voss is still with Global as well, but is a free agent when it comes to PBA tournaments since they haven't been product registered for a few years now.  Voss also has been throwing Seismic when going over to Europe since at least 2012.

Per the rules on bowl.com, any bowling ball on the usbc approved ball list can be used, this isn't a PBA event, but usbc masters event. Plugged bowling balls can also be used, any ball is subject to testing and the bowler can have a ball checked on his own.

I remember back when Matt McNeil finished just shy of making the telecast in 2013 USBC Masters he had used 900 Global equipment. There was something about if he made the show on Sunday, they were going to put some Storm equipment in his arsenal and use someone else's shoes. Apparently the PBA owns the rights to the telecast so the rules were USBC until the show, then they changed to PBA rules.

Voss was on the old 900 Global page as a staff member, but ever since the new website rollout, they took down the staff page tab. Think he throws a lot of Seismic and 900 Global/AMF when bowling over in Europe on the ETBF. I know Robert Smith does a lot of work promoting 900 Global and AMF throughout Japan doing clinics and demos.

Yes, that may be true but if you make it to the finals, you can't use what got you there.

But they can use any USBC approved equipment and that's the point I was making. I bet a lot of non-PBA approved equipment was used all week. Brian Voss won overseas with Seismic and the video of him bowling in Ireland using the Venator looks really good!

I understand but what would be the point of throwing equipment that you can't throw if you make the show?   I understand being good to throw anything but to not be able to throw what you used all during the tournament wouldn't make sense.

I figure use the equipment you know and make the show, that more than half the battle. What would also be the point of using equipment that you're not familiar with and stinking up the place. The object is to make money and everybody wants to win, but getting the check is what you're there for. I see your point, but if you make the show, you'll have people wanting you to use their stuff and will help with ball reaction. Just my $.02, Bruce

Ask Tommy Jones.  He throws columbia and track all the time during qualifying but has to use pos ebonite balls when he makes the show

Same goes for TJ and Chris Barnes throwing Hammer during qualifying also.  Even Fagan was throwing the Arson Low Flare for qualifying a few times before leaving Track.  All of that was before EBI got rid of the 4 brand contracts.

Jack Jureck threw a Seismic Venator for a game during qualifying at USBC Masters this year.

Also I forgot the brand name but RS has his own line if stuff in Japan. Haven't seen to much about recently but there was talks of trying to eventually bring it over.

Jack Jurek is on Storm's staff so that's amazing that he was able to use Seismic!

Jack also did a review of 5 balls for Seismic.  He did get Storms permission before reviewing and throwing a few Seismic pieces to prevent messing up his position with Storm. So must be an open relationship.

Hey Jason! I watched some of your Seismic videos and really like the reaction. I have a Desperado TSE on the way and had a Venator, but moved back up to 15lb and gave it to one of my high school bowlers that I coach. I've drilled and rolled a lot of bowling balls and Seismic is up there with some of the best I've rolled. Sorry didn't mean to steal the thread, my apologizes!!
