Behind the Break ...
« on: March 24, 2009, 01:38:36 AM »
Hey all,..
I'm looking at maybe getting my brother a ball to go behind his Break solid.

The obvious is the pearl, but I'm going to say that's too close and a little more separation would be better....so.....

Do you go to something like a polished or control drilled Maniac, or a Creature, or a Link?  I'm thinking Creature or Creature Pearl

Now, I don't have his specs and/or how the ball is drilled, but he's a lefty tweener that plays up the boards ....

That's a tough one there...I love my Break Pearl, but I've been shooting the lights out lately with my Maniac.

Unless you tame the Maniac cover you really won't be "going under" the Break...it'll just be a different path to the pocket.

If he likes his Break, I'd say go with the Break Pearl.  The Creature Pearl is a pretty good ball, but it's more than just a step down from the Break...it's a whole different creature (ha-yuck).

I would say a Creature Solid Drilled 5x4 or 4x3 should fit nicely, or a Maniac  drilled  5x4 with the pin up and maybe the surface taken up to 2000 or 4000 .

Definitely the Maniac.  Mine is drilled 5" x 3-1/2", pin over ring, surface at 2000 Abralon it is my benchmark piece.  One of the best I have thrown.

I would actually look at the Code.  For a good control ball with better length and solid back end motion.

Break 2.489/ .058 diff
Code  2.47/ .048 diff

hope this helps...

I have thrown both the Maniac and the Creature Pearl, but never the creature.
If you drill a Maniac like others have said pin up, surface prep to 2000 or higher, with maybe a touch of compound or polish to fit nicely under the break.
My CP has a very weak drill pattern with oob coverstock and is very close to the same reaction as my Maniac.
The link can also be a nice choice here just depends how much under the break you are looking.

I am seconding the Code, it would have a similar motion as the breaks, with a touch more control, still has a nice backend.

Mine is a good step down when a solid reactinve is getting to be to much. almost perfect step down, stay same spot and same target and i am flush in the pocket.

This ball is one of my favorites, a long time keeper.

Thanks again all ....

I'd lean toward the solid instead of the pearl just because I know he prefers smoother ...

I must keep the Code in mind too,...

how is your brother's break solid laidout?? if you are looking for a step down and he really likes his break solid, you could always drill another solid and change the layout.. I myself really like my 1st break solid oob dull(pin down 4-7/8 x 3-5/8 x 2-1/2)so I drilled another break solid oob with extender polish(pin up 5 x 5 x 2)really like this one more!! when my 1st one starts burning up too early I can go to the shinny one and it gives the same target area(about a 4 board adjustment with my feet though/same target area) but more entry angle to carry better.. just a thought in a different dirrection instead of trying a different ball.. I find that it is easier to drill another ball that is the same that you really like then it is to do something different and maybe find another ball that is totally different to get what you want out of it.. if your brother likes the soild break try another one with a different drilling on it with some polish.. sorry for rambling on so, good luck on your adventure.. slashrr69
