Bounty Hunter!
« on: June 29, 2010, 03:21:13 PM »
All I can say is WOW! I've been missing out on an awesome ball! I drilled this ball today to be my heavy oil ball. I used the dual angle layout: 40deg x 3-1/4" x 60deg, which placed the pin right and just below my ring finger and the mb just past my val. This ball is was clean thru the heads and had a smooth strong arc from the midlane thru the pins. The first test was on the Kegel Sunset Strip pattern and I played the outside line up 5 board. Part of the last game of a four game set I used a Bounty that I just drilled as well with a 50deg x 3-1/4" x 35deg, which placed the pin right and just a little above my ring finger and the mb between my thumb and val. I'm really impressed with my new 900 Global/AMF equipment that I've drilled. Just my $.02, Bruce

Bizarre to me when I read about how strong the Bounty Hunter is compared to mine. This has proven to be my weakest 900 ball to date. House shot or Nationals I have to play this one straighter to get to the pocket. Now mine is drilled with the pin at 5 1/2" but the mass is in a strong position. Tried it out of box, polished and then with a light surface. Did have too much side weight to start, 3/4 side, is better since I brought it closer to 1/4 side. Any one else run into this?

Tex, ive had this problem with my BH as well, seems when I get straight with it, its a beast but as I move in it does nothing, I assume that's its completely burning up that it has nothing left for the back end (same thing on even longer patterns IE Shark)

Hey Tex,
Big difference between a 3-1/4" pin to pap than a 5-1/2" pin to pap even with the mb in a strong position. I don't drill strong balls with long pin to pap's, it like neutering the ball! lol

I'm thinking that's what's up with my Bounty Hunter Pearl. I went 5xx and it's almost a straight ball for me

My wife shot 800 with hers yesterday in a scratch tournament, the only female in a field of 80, 266-256-278,...not bad for 54 years young.

I have the pearl BH also and love that ball. I have had maybe one instance where it did not react like expected and is the #2 ball in my arsenal right now, some centers it is the first out of the bag. The funny thing on my solid is the only time it has really hooked was on some fried conditions. Now my highest game at Nationals was rolling the solid Bounty Hunter, but the second frame of the following game a touch of carry down got to my break point and the hook disappeared. That was in doubles so lanes should have been opening. I had really thought it was burning up as well and may be the case. That is one reason I pulled out some side weight, not to mention leaving as much as I did was not intentional just wanted to get a read on the ball before I added the weight hole. I think it is a good ball, just more conditional than expected especially after drilling the pearl first.

Batbowler, just noticed your comment. I seldom ever put anything strong position. I do have a Break Pearl that I did a modified Rico with the pin 1" above my CG and gives me about 5" pin. That one has the mass under the thumb as well for the same reason, huge pin out locatoin of the balls center of gravity. What you are saying does make some sense. I had talked with Eric and he suggested this drilling based on the ball for Nationals.
