Brand or core dynamics?
« on: September 08, 2009, 05:39:40 AM »
I here allot of people were I bowl say Storm is the best or Brunswick is the best or Hammer or Visonary etc.
I have found that no matter what the company only balls with low CG 2.49 or lower and a diff over .48 work well for me. I've shot stuff all up and down the the CG and diff. range and have have to ask for a sanity check. 218 to 215 with my Game breaker or my Kenitic and 185 with a Cell or a Sting on the same lanes. Can get it to the pocket with a few different entry angles and have messed with different layouts and cover adjustments but rolly balls leave me out of the money. Faster revving balls = payday.
 Any thoughts?

im assuming your are referring to a house shot, but for me it goes for any upper level ball, regardless of brand. with my rev rate i just dont see enough oil on a house shot to allow me to use higher flaring cores. a step further, i usually dont match up with upper end stuff on pba patterns either, because of the flare. for me house shots are about control off friction, whether is the outside portion of the lane or the backend. most upper end cores tend to rev up sooner and therefor are GENERALLY smoother than mid to lower level pieces. and its deceiving to alot of people. case in point a very good friend of mine recently purchased an amf mega friction for his men's league. i told him he wouldnt see enough oil to do the ball justice, but he bought it anyway. the first game he threw with it he did nothing but complain about how it wasnt hooking on the back. when i tried to tell him he didnt have enough oil for the ball to work properly, he said it wasnt that, it was drilled wrong. too many times today people equate hook with skid snap, not knowing they are two totally different looks on the lane.

Bab, I could have written your note word for word. I live the exact same life as you do every week. Same tests, same results, and a lot of wasted money ignoring what my own eyes told me. It's our rev rate and style, bottom line. There may be a company match up factor, but it's more based on exactly what you're seeing. In my case, I also have to add that I can't throw asymmetric that well. It has to be 2.50 and > .48, preferably symmetric. I've proven it night after night, year after stubborn year. Finally, just this year, I've decided to stop ignoring the signs and understand what dynamics work for me. Last week I threw six balls. The week before that, 5. Side by side, night after night, my Special Agent and Absolute inferno will outshine anything else, new or old, no matter what brand, or "monster hook" factor.
You're not alone, brother. Don't believe anyone else's hype, believe your eyes and what your gut tells you. Go with your A game.

Any feed back is good and that is why I wanted to jump in on this site. Thanks for the thoughts for anyone who took time to reply. I had my highest average last season at 204 and I think it was because I was in my 1st competitive league (only bowling 4 years now) and I did not want to give up any pins so I stayed with the stuff that was scoring. Over the summer did a PBA and a house shot league tried a bunch of stuff and was back to a 187 bowler on a house shot. It's only a few weeks into the fall but my high average is 218 using the stuff I used last fall, Game Breaker and a Kenitic for a different path to the pocket. I think for each bowler finding what gives them the best opportunity to score is the way to go. I may be in the minority by not falling in love with any one or two companies equipment but It is getting hard to ignore reality. It sounds like most of you others have found your good match and more importantly have learned what dose not work well for your styles.   Thanks

i think thats the key to most anybody's game, finding what works for YOU. i worked in a pro shop for 5 years and one thing i learned real quick is that every bowler is different, from pap's to track diameter to ball speed, bowlers are like finger prints lol. one thing i have learned too is what worked for me 2,3,4 years ago may not work this year, its a constant change because we get older, joints lose flexabilty, what have you. thats why practice is so important. it keeps you on top of changes you need to make. ive been bowling for over 20 years, and i could write a book on the things i have changed over the years with my game. if you are just starting out, use practice to experiment with your game. use a different realease, line, ball speed whatever. just because i side cup my hand during release to gain length doesnt mean it will work for you.
