Bullet train layout
« on: September 20, 2013, 05:57:18 PM »
Has anybody thrown one on a THS the patterns I bowl on are 40 and 41 feet. I have been having trouble getting mid grade equipment to finish early in the night. Usually play relatively straight stand at 10 throw over 6. Is this ball too strong for a house shot at box finish?

Bullet Train is S79 finished at 2500 grit with an RG of 2.55 and a diff of .040 (15#)

Out of box, I feel that you might have a good look if the patterns are at least med to heavy. Without knowing your stats, that's a stab in the dark. With the lower diff, it's going to be early and smooth. What are you using now so we can compare?

As far as global bank roll and break s75 others are IQ tour pearl lights out and times up solid. The price on the bullet was too good to pass up. It has 1.5-2 inch pin and 2 ounces top. Was thinking something pin down for a bit different shape. Bank roll is slightly up at 2 o'clock from ring s75 is pin over ring

I'm a lefty tweener who likes to play straight. I have a bullet train that I love. I mostly up the back of the ball and some nights I can get through the first two games of league if it is at least medium to start. I love the ball and I have it drilled with the pin right under the ring finger and the cg kicked out some. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I was kind of thinking the same type of layout. Similar to the gal in the demonstration video global put up for the release.

How much ball speed do you have? Are you a rev/speed dominate person?

I'm just curious because you have 2 as far as I know, possibly 3 balls where at least 1 should work well on the fresh between the Break, Bank Roll, and Times Up. The Break S75 is the soaker cover and everyone of those I've ever seen worked great on med-heavy oil with multiple layouts. If I remember correctly, the Bank Roll is also a ball meant for oil as that Bank series replaced the Bounty series. I have the original Bounty and I love it on med-heavy oil and especially on fresh.

Yeah, my Bank Roll out hooked my Train and Freight Train. Great ball for heavy oil. How is it drilled?

Without knowing your ball speed, PAP, etc. its a bit difficult to recommend a layout. However, generally speaking, the ball you are getting having 2oz t/w and 1-1.5" pin will make this ball start up earlier. You may be a little limited on prefered layouts, but hopefully your driller should be able to set you up with something that suits your game. With that being said, I had an original Train with a 1-1.5" pin and being that I didn't want to kick out the CG as this would have resulted in a large hole, I chose to keep it inside the ring finger and place the ping in the ring finger. This resulted in a very smooth, controlable ball reation. Ultimately, it was perfect for fresh THS and medium-heavy oil shots. I found that even with this layout I still had to move into the oil. Although I couldn't send it extremely out, I could make a mistake right and still have a fair amount of recovery. Just remember to use the oil with these aggressive cover balls.

Both the s75 and bank roll are pin up. I usually throw around 16mph not a lot of hand however. My driller said the best thing I could do for my game is to slow it down and roll the ball more. Basicly I was taking all the movement out of the ball by trying to muscle it. I was thinking pin under so I could have a different look. My entire arsenal is pin up. Not sure of my pap I should probably have that checked out. I simy trust my driller on his recommendations he hasn't let me down yet.

I agree with your driller. Try to slow down slightly to around 15.

I don't have a lot of hand, but probably more than you. I throw around 16 as well, and my pin up Bounty is great. It wouldn't hurt to have another ball with a different layout though

All valid points mentioned. If your driller knows your game and has given you good advice (ball selection and layouts) in the past and you trust him, then go to him and ask for his advice.

With that being said, IMO I personally don't see a huge need to get overly exotic in layouts. If you have 1 or 2 or 3 layouts that match up to your game, then don't try to re-invent the wheel. Use what works for you. The biggest thing to change ball reaction will be with surface adjustments. Ultimately, if you have a ball drilled a certain way for a certain condition, then you will tend to only use it for those rare occasions you see that shot, perhaps at tournaments and not necessarily during league nights. I think you will see a lot of versatility in this ball using a control layout. Hope this helps and don't over think it. Just my .02 cents. Hope this helps, good luck!

Just got done with league and chatting with my pro shop guy. We are going to lay it out to start up early and finish strong. He said with my speed this will help with keeping the box finish. On a side note I felt like I threw the ball great tonight shot 120 over my average and managed to run into 806 and 1074 for a 4 game set. Talk about an a... woopin. The only thing he didn't bring was a paddle. Thanks for all the input.
