First impression - Sure Thing
« on: May 09, 2014, 10:57:30 AM »
With the Rico drill I put on this ball, and knowing that Rico drills are VERY responsive to hand position changes and read the lane very well, I guessed that this ball would be very heavy rolling. A great combo of core, cover (anything stronger might have bled off too much energy too soon), and layout. Even at 2000, I got good push thru the heads, great read of the midlane, and however much back end I generated with my hand. One thing I love about this drill is that if you want to move out and take hand out, it's very responsive, and if you want to move in, you can get on it a little more, and it will turn.

The hit at the deck is something out of the high end line. Holy moley, I don't throw many messengers, but I was slinging pins around the deck like I was a smaller balder version of Robert Smith. Control, predictable, and great hit? Don't mind if I do.

Great review. Thought this ball was a lot of performance for the price. Definitely strong from the front of the lane to the back. More so than I thought it would be for a S55 cover.

How would you say it compares to the AMF King Cobra? Seems very similar.

Haven't picked up my KC from the shop yet, but I think the KC will be smoother due to the lower diff. Looking forward to picking it up along with my desert hook.

With having both Sure Thing and King Cobra and drilled the same, Sure Thing definitely is stronger up front more so than the King Cobra. I felt the Sure Thing was stronger from the front to the back of the lane. The King Cobra was able to allow me to get deeper and not have to worry about the ball burning energy so quick. All in all, the King Cobra was more ball for my game. Sure Thing was good, but I really fell in love with the King Cobra after the first shot. I wanted the Sure Thing to be something very similar to my Favorite and it was way stronger. The King Cobra was exactly like the Favorite, but allowed me to move deeper and still have some backend recovery and pop. In the end, I don't think the house I bowled at had enough oil (AMF house) to compensate for the strength of the Sure Thing. Hope I was able to paint you a picture.
