Honey Badger is LEGIT
« on: May 07, 2018, 12:05:23 AM »
Wow, it's like one of the best pearl assyms I have ever thrown. No wonder it's getting the good press!!!

Kinda upset they went with a new core in the badger...

Honey Badger is the very definition of skid flip. It's intended use is to open up the lane. Sometimes you have to use the ball for which it's intended. If you want a little more control, go Truth Tour.

Hey doom! What do you think about putting a real weak pin on a honey badger, say 6 inch pin from pap and using it for broken down, late block, hooking conditions?

You could do that, but a stronger drill on a Boost or After Dark would be better

Makes sense. Was always told, driil strong balls weak, weak balls strong. Been really struggling in league this year. Lanes have been hooking a ton. May try that. Someone suggested a match up pearl to me. Know your a global guy though.

billdozer,

what kind of layout are you using on your HB since it is more of a skid-flip ball?  If I remember right, you generally like a 4x4x2 layout.  Wondering if your HB is different.

Yes 4x4x2 on this one. Gives it a revvy midlane and controllable backend.  I can really get around it and focus on rolling the ball, almost like an old school reaction. Not to say the ball is weak by anymeans--many today you are fighting to keep it on the Lane and from going Brooklyn. The HB is perfect for medium conditions for me.

How about the honey badger claw(solid at 2000) and new respect ( same color blue silver with a new cover) that’s going to be released in the near future.

At least the Claw is using the original HB core.  Still would probably pick up a Hy-Road X instead.  Whole edge to HB for me was it being a skid flip 2 piece but understand why 900 would want to cash in on the name.  HB only 900 ball I own but if only going to own one not a bad one to pick imo as pretty unique.

Everything I've seen shows the same 79 Alert Hybrid cover on the Respect

Drilled the honey badger pin in my track, mb drilled out in thumb. Love this ball. Smooth, Lopey with no flare.Very controllable for hooking lanes. Ball doesn’t really jerk off the dry. Fills a gap in my arsenal. Great piece.

How similar are folks seeing the Honey Badger to the Code Black?

I’ve wondered how similar S-71 Pearl was to an R2S Pearl. Obviously the RAD4 Core is stronger, but numbers on paper aren’t always the end all be all in bowling as we’ve learned haha.
Current Rotation:
PhysiX
Code X
Code Black
Axiom Pearl
Phaze III

HB is going to be straighter thru the fronts and mids and more angular on the back. Code Black is going to be comparable to the Black Ops.

Doom is right on about the code black, and the black ops. They roll almost identical for me. Though my code black is pin down, and my black ops is pin up. I tend to hit my black ops with 1000 pad and use it for heavy oil patterns. Ball really takes well to surface adjustments. Used  black ops at nationals with 1000, ball worked great. Got me a 9 th place finish at the bowlers journal with it. So I would say ops is probably stronger, more versatile with its stronger solid cover. Both great pieces.
