hook!
« on: April 04, 2013, 09:13:01 PM »
Well for a low end ball cant say enough great ball when you need it somthing must have gone wrong with the lane machine tonight because it was a desert but lo and behold I pull out my black pearl hook n-strike 17 out of the last 24 strikes with everyone else around me struggling terribly making them look bad and quietly laughing to myself being one of the only people in the building throwing 900 global. Thanks again guys great equipment.

Agreed. I just got my pink/black and green/black, and they're awesome, and hit like a truck! The g/b one is EARLY! Love them!

I just picked up my first 900 Global ball - I got the blue Hook.  Any idea what to expect?  I know it's not super strong, but that's okay.  I'm looking for something to use on dryer lane conditions.

Will it be snappy at all on the backend or smoother?

Smoother. Personally, I don't see anything snappy about that line.

Thanks for the response.  So what is the difference between the Hooks if they are all smooth?  What makes one different from the other?

Pearl, hybrid, and solid covers, with the solid being sanded.

Now don't get me wrong. They're strong, but not super boomerang off the dry.

Okay, that makes sense.  It's all about how far it gets down the lane before making a smooth move.  Thanks!

But you didn't tell him that it's because of your firmer ball speed that they all seem smooth. The Hooks have the ability to be fairly snappy, especially the polished pearl and the hybrid for matched speed/revs and rev dominant bowlers.

The dull Black/Green Hybrid and dull Blue/Blue Pearl become earlier and fairly smooth due to their surface finish.

They now have polished pearls (Black/Silver, Purple/Orange) and a dull pearl (Blue/Blue).
They have a dull Hybrid (Black/Green) and  polished Hybrids (Blue/Gold & Pink/Black).
They originally had a polished solid, (Red/Gold) but that was discontinued.

Thanks for the clarification.  Balls tend to roll fairly smooth for me too, so my experience probably won't be too different than his.

Just had to be sure things were clear. Ball speed and rev rate ratios are important in situations like this.

I don't think so. I know Doom personally, and I bowl with him.

I would never use firmer ball speed and Doom in the same sentence.  :o

I believe the blue blue is gone as well. The two hybrids, black pearl and green solid stay.

Sevenpin, you're a meanie. :)

I had "talked" him previously when we were concerned about the backend of balls, as we are here. He implied what I said. Maybe then he has low tilt and a lot angle of rotation that reduces the backend he sees on balls. In any case, unless you drill Hooks to force them to have a reduced backend, most normal drillings provide a good deal of backend when used on their intended oil patterns.

I may be a little speed dominant, but with the little I've used the 2 of them, that its not going to bounce off of the dry like a Jewel. It's an arcing motion. Brittons hook videos are pretty accurate.
