Lunatic questions
« on: December 23, 2010, 06:23:01 AM »
So, I just got a "new" (used) lunatic.  It was drilled real weak, so I had it plugged and redrilled.  Pin up (about 040 degrees off of ring), CG in center of palm area ish...roughly 4-5 inches to pap.  I had the finish on it taken to a light 1000 with some polish...not high gloss.  I was having problems rolling it at first from where I normally stand with my Wild Thing/Jigsaw/Gladiator Pearl (normally 25ish..I have a crooked approach)....which i throw roughly 18-10.  So I moved right a dot (to 20) and threw it down the 10 and it cruised down, broke and destroyed the pocket.  If I got closer to the 5 it wouldnt come back.  If I yanked it to the 15 it would go Brooklyn but always leave a random pin...the 5 sticks out to me most tho.

What have you all experienced with this ball?  I thought it would have similar shape to my Wild Thing (pin up over bridge but cg kicked right) but go longer since it's a weaker ball.  I like it, it's just different than what I'm used to.  I dont have a ton of experience...~4 years bowling.  I appreciate all info and pointers you all have to offer!  Thanks and Merry Christmas!

So no one has anything on this ball??  I find that highly irregular!

I have one, and it is alot stronger than I had anticipated.  Had good length and a nice strong pop on the backend.  Not angular though.

I have one too. For me it goes long with a lot on the back end. I usually play this ball between 2nd and 3rd arrow

Yeah I thought it might be a little more angular, but its definitely a strong move on the back.  I think its going to be a good one.

Might want to try oil extraction in a rejuvenator if you can. Whenever you buy a used ball thats the best thing to do . You never know how many games the person who owned it before you put on it. I bought a Break Pearl used way back and the thing was a dart, then I did oil extraction and the thing hooked a ton!!

yeah, might do an oil extraction.  That's a good idea.  I think I am going to roll with it for a few weeks and see what I can do with it first before I change it since I figured the right angle out with the way it is now.  The ball was in pristine condition when I got it tho, so I dont think it was bowled on all that much.

Yes this isn't the typical flashy, big back-ending ball that everyone is used to seeing. Found the lunatic to be a great compliment to the maniac. Same ball motion but further down the lane. Not a ball that jumped off the spot, but had great heavy roll and continuation. Perfect for a house shot, but when I see an earlier, mid-lane roll, that definitely tells me when to put it away. Mine is at OOB and I need the polish on it for an even consistent arc. Great under-rated ball.

Just gave a Lunatic away to a friend to try. I bowl on drier conditions and only used it the first game and put it away each week. It hits as hard as anything I've ever thrown, but needs more oil than I bowl on. I throw 15 mph and swing 12 to 6 and it roars back. I switch to my break point pearl and continue next two games. (He bowled a career high series with it first week out)

Just ordered a Bank Pearl and can't wait to see this monster knock em down.

Yeah, now that I've gotten to use this thing more, this thing hooks.  I thought my Wild Thing was pretty strong, but I gotta say, the Lunatic hooks harder.  The WT is a little more smooth, but I like the Lunatic.  I have it sitting at 1000 grit right now with a lil polish.  I wish pro shops would put the finish I really ask for and want on a ball, but that's a whole other topic....

Either way, I think it's going to treat me right the rest of the season because it does hit real hard!  :)

One other thing that I've noticed about this ball is that if you miss the pocket and go brooklyn, it doesnt like to give you the strike.  Usually always leaves the 5 pin sittin there.  Anyone else see that or was I just lucky enough to have that happen often?  ha!  It does seem pretty forgiving when missing on the right tho and carries light hits pretty well.
