My Train Review w/Video
« on: February 11, 2012, 01:49:11 PM »
Ball specs:
14lbs
4 1/2" x 4 3/4" or 90°x4 1/2"x45°
Ball has 30 games on it prior to this review/video

My stats:
Right Handed
16mph at the pins
5 3/4" x 1" Up is my PAP
Moderate Cranker

My initial thinking was to have the Train replace the Requiem I was missing for my heavy oiler.  The Train is no doubt a strong ball, but comes up short to the Requiem in that category.  Just missing it by a smidge, and just a smidge stronger than the AMF Mega Recovery.  Still plenty of hook in the box for tweeners and above.

For me, the Train gets through the heads well(as long as there's a bit oil), with a nice midlane read.  Strong and continuous on the backend, carrying through the pin deck.  Very strong, yet smooth and controllable ball motion, that is easy to read.  Reminds me of the AMF Grip's ball motion.  When the lanes start to dry, the Train will find it early, making it easy for you to make adjustments.  I found small adjustments don't work to well, I usually make a 3-1 move left when I see the ball checking up.

As far as carrying, and keeping pins low, your guess is as good as mine.  All that is hype and over excitement.  My opinion is, make shots, and hopefully they all fall.  Make your own assessment after watching the video.

The video is over 5mins long.  A lot of shots in there.  Each shot in the video is in succession of one another.  I left the bad in there with the good.  You see the breakdown in the lanes, and the adjustments I made.  There is a few shots of the Nuts Pearl, showing you how much of a monster it is on busted up lanes, equaling the hook of the Train.  The lanes are 2-3yr old Brunswick Anvilanes.  Not much oil, and a lot of friction.  I threw the Creature(video included also) on the lane for a game and a half before I started with the Train.

My final thoughts on the Train is, I love the roll of it, the predictability, readability, and overall lane consistency of it so far.  That is why I bought two of them.  How much more I will like it will depend on the sport shot review.  My only problem now is, it's taking lane time away from my Blackout, Raging Bull Charged, and Nuts Pearl.

Enjoy the vids...

Great videos! Especially like the love for the Creature Solid. Definitely need that one remade. Also, the Train looked suprisingly good for burnt up lanes. Very smooth and controlled. Just what I am looking for. Can't wait to put some holes in mine.

great video, my train has a similar layout and i got that same reaction, till i hit it with the T pad, then all i can say is WOW! with the T  pad finish on a typical house shot the becomes a even more of a beast

Thanks man.  The Train runs pretty smooth.  I'm curiously waiting to see what they do next with the core.  As for the Creature, very good piece imho.  Totally different than the Creature Pearl, which was way angular off the spot.  I looked everywhere for one in 14lbs, and when I stopped looking, it appeared.  I'm glad I found one, I think it will be a great ball for me on the drier conditions.

im hopeing for a pearl version of the train  might be like the OMG on steroids,LOL

especially when i se that the train is even stronger with the T pad finish, maybe at nationals the oob finish would be great just not for house conditions

Jeff, that's what I was hoping for.  When I get tired of throwing it, I plan on using the T pad and than some polish, to see what can be achieved.  I know if I take mine up in surface a bit, it will definitely read stronger.  I think the slight burn helps it keep it's smooth roll.

when i took mine up to the T pad i still get the strong continuos back end its just more defined and stronger through the pocket, polished it might overlap some of the other balls, i have 2 bank rolls one is the red one took all out with the T pad finish along with the train, i get three totally different reactions and believe it or not the red one is earlier and very continuos and the train falls between the  2,  the blue bank roll with the  T pad finish goes much longer is almost a hard flip at the back end  kind of like the black eagle, id suggest trying your train with the T pad finish, its a different beast and the carry is off the charts

Nice video. The ball looks real smooth and easy to read. Do you have many problems with it burning up early and not finishing well I didn't have much luck with the Bank due to burning up early for me. The Break is still my all time favorite ball and I still use my S75 whenever I can.

kong, not too many problems with burning up early.  Usually when I migrate left, I still have enough head oil to get the ball downlane.  If it was a completely dried shot, than I would assume the burn up and not finishing would be there.  This house is the driest of the 3 that I bowl in by far.  I'm always starting 5 left than the others.  Not to mention, it dries up fast here.  On league night, I'm moving left halfway through first game.  Usually end up lofting gutter cap towards the end, or throwing plastic.

Sounds good I'll have to give the Train a try.
