opinion on a step down from Grip it. Opinions?
« on: January 10, 2014, 02:29:28 PM »
my grip it is drilled 5x3 pin down and I buffed the factory finish and is perfect for the one house I bowl. I would like to find a step down ball for when the grip it becomes to much. considering the heat stroke drilled the same, whats your guy's opinion?
Thanks!
The harder I try the harder they fall

Heat Stroke would be a step down, or even a Hook. Hooks are stronger than they look

I tend to favor the lower rg cores. also considering the torrid elite.

Then I would go Heat Stroke, but you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't throw a hook at least once. It's sooooooo good for that price point. Also, the core shape of the Hooks and the Elite are similar, and the diff is the same.

Couldn't agree more about the Hooks. My fav is the Blk/Neon Green one. At that price, you can't beat it. Would be a perfect step down from the Grip IT in my opinion. Especially if you're not looking to ball down to something shiny.

I love my Blue-Yellow Hook on medium house shots, hits like a tank.

I have a Blk/Pink Hybrid and the Grn/blk solid, and I could make it a 2 ball arsenal on everything that I'll ever see.

Personally, I would do another hybrid with a stronger drill, and a pearl with a longer pin, and it would be sweet.

For what it's worth, having both the Heat Stroke and Hook Pearl (orange/purple) drilled the same at 5"x5", I had to hit them both with 4k to smooth them out more. The Hook Pearl was quite flippy and with the surface change it smoothed it out big time. With the Heat Stroke I found it to have an early read, but the motion wasn't floppy, but a strong arch. The surface change pushes it further down the lane, but it still retains its strong arch motion. I would say if you want more of a arch motion with strong continuation then go Heat Stroke. However if you are looking for more backend pop, then go Hook Pearl. Also the Hook Hybrid is equally as good. Either one is sure to not disappoint. At that price point you won't be disappointed. If you have any questions let me know.
