thinking of trying a 900 Global, advice pls
« on: October 14, 2009, 12:37:26 AM »
Hey guys,

I've build myself a new arsenal this season, and I'm trying as much as brands as I can, or at least those I'm interested in.

So far I have:
(-spareball)
- Hammer Emerald Vibe
- Columbia Perfect Rival
- Storm Furious
- Roto-Grip Rogue Cell
- Storm Virtual Gravity

I'm a lefty, would consider myself a powerstroker, nowdays throwing the ball aprox. 17-18 mph (pindeck), revs close to 300 rpm (275-300)

There are 2 balls that have catched my eye from 900G:

Bounty Hunter & Break Point Pearl

Now my local shop doesn't sell them I don't know much people throwing 900G, so my knowledge of those balls is limited, only info from here on forum + watching some vids on youtube.
The BH should be stronger than the Virtual Gravity all things being equal?
and the BPP should fit somewhere in between Furious & Rogue Cell?

I only have room left for 1 more ball atm, so it's gonna be BH or BPP, slight advantage towards the BPP at the moment, I haven't thrown on a condition yet that needed something stronger than the Virtual Gravity.

If there are guys on here that have thrown both balls, or a BH + VG or a BPP and other strong pearls/hybrids (rogue cell, hy-road, 2nd dimension, hot sauce, burn, bedlam, ....) I would really like to hear from you
Also want to know if the guess for the fit in my arsenal: BPP between Rogue Cell & Furious is correct?

Grtz.

one of the best balls to be released in a long time
smooth , rolly and strong backend. hits good and easy to read

The BH is stronger than VG and the BPP is longer and has more motion down the lane.  Honestly you really can't go wrong with either.  So my idea is this do a BH first roll a 300 catch a part of the 50K Bounty then drill yourself a BPP.  This way you get both them become hooked on the juice that Eric mixes up!  Good luck.

BPP has my vote as well, even though if you get a BH, it would give you a bigger gap between the Rogue Cell and the VG instead of them being so close.

Break Point Pearl takes the cake for me.  It seems like you need something for a bit of length and angularity.  This would be a good complement to your perfect rival and give you a different shape than anything else you have in the bag.

That and it looks awesome going down the lane

I have the BPP and I used a VG last year.  I do not have a Bounty Hunter.

I love the BPP and I do not like the VG.  Currently, my arsenal
consists of a Global 900 Link and a BPP.

I could give you my recommendation if you answered these questions:

In your current arsenal, what ball do you use most or plan on using
most?  And, what is the drilling for that ball?  And, what line
are you playing?  What is the lane condition you are bowling on?

If you answered these questions, I could give you my recommendation.

9 times out a 10 your not gonna be able to use your bounty hunter for more than a game or some, unless your a lucky sole that has a league with oil. Im not as fortunate as some! hahaha I'd say go with the break point pearl to get your toes wet in 900 global, its a great pearl that isnt too much for house shots, but can still compete on tougher patterns.  Nice and angular like a pearl should be, gives me something to go to after my sideways becomes too angular.  I think it would give you a better go to ball rather than your three Dull (furious, rouge, virtual.

Thanks for all the replies so far,

to answer some questions from global900pbaexp:

In your current arsenal, what ball do you use most or plan on using most?
=> This would be my furious, I got it drilled label leverage and it's a bit shiny, not the dull 2000 abralon coverstock it comes oob. My perfect rival also get's quite some usage, it's got a weaker layout on it and I use it a lot on the lighter stuff or when my furious is burning up & starts leaving weak 7's...
And, what is the drilling for that ball?
=> Well, label leverage  3 3/8" * 3 3/8"
And, what line are you playing?
Normally I start with a small belly shot around 2nd arrow, typical like 10-5 What is the lane condition you are bowling on?
standard THS, med-medheavy(maybe), it's got 22.8uL of oil (iirc), really dry outside 7

@insidedrive: Indeed, that's what I was thinking aswell, I need something sharper at the break point.

Like most on here say: the bounty prolly won't get much usage, so I'll better go with the BPP I guess,   anyone can suggest a drilling for it?

btw, the reason I'm also looking at the BH is because my Rogue is closer to the Furious than the Virtual Gravity & I was thinking I might need a ball to support it.
It's not really needed that the ball I buy would fit in my THS-bag, I do fairly well with the Furious/Perfect Rival on it,  I'm just looking for a complete tournament-bag (I play about 2-3 tournament's/month).

So I'm looking at 2 options:

1) get the BPP to give me a more skid/flip look
2- get the BH to support my Gravity on the longer & heavier stuff, in this case I would polish my Rogue to give me the skid/flip look on med-medheavy ...

thanks for all answers so far, 900Global looks like a happy brand looking at the quick and supportive responses here

IMO the solid Break Point is much more skid flippy than the Break Point Pearl.

My current Global 900 Arsenal is as follows, please feel free to ask specific questions on ball(s) that interest you.

See ABQ08.wmv video to see how i toss the ball for cross comparison to you and your game.
http://www.princetonbowl.com/For%20Sale.htm

Bounty Hunter, Drilled 4.5 x 70 VAL x 30 Drill Angle  (primarily earliest rolling ball I have but only because the Bounty has been taken from 1000 Box to 4000).

Bounty, Drilled 4.5 x 40 VAL x 60 Drill Angle (4000 Abralon and use after BHunter begins to lose reaction, longer flippier drilling.  It was one of the first i bought)

Break Point, Drilled 4.5 x 70 VAL x 30 Drill Angle (First ball i bought and have tossed 300 and 832 with the ball, Drilling has pin under fingers and very forward off the Break Point)

Break Point Pearl, Drilled 4.5 x 70 VAL x 30 Drill Angle  (Ball after Break Point Solid and use to open up the lane from deeper)

Lunatic, Drilled 4.5 x 70 VAL x 30 Drill Angle (I have not tossed much so far, close to BP Pearl when it reads lane but very mild probably because of drilling)

Creature, Drilled 4.5 x 45 VAL x 45 Drill Angle (Old Pulse weight block and very mild ball, try when the lanes are shot

Link, Drilled 4.5 x 45 VAL x 45 Drill Angle (Can you say length)

I would go with the BPP.

I am a high rev player.

5 x 3 drilling, pin on top.
