Does anybody know if these balls are still around?

I know these were somewhat limited, but they were not heavily promoted and it was hard to find anybody that knew what they were, let alone even sold them.

I think those are all related. A ball no one promoted, with a core/cover combo no one is sure what it is, which no one sold. Sounds like a recipe for a hard-to-find why-would-you-want-it ball.

The ball was Superflex with the Triumph core. That much was easy. Well, not really because people were saying the covers were actually left overs from other balls being made in the plant. AMF said the covers were Superflex. The covers were made with colors from ends of runs from other balls - so you might get one that looked like another ball (say a Velocity), or one that was a "muddy" blend of those colors.

I have one (Rule GP2 colors), but still haven't drilled it up. Some AMF pro shops were selling them in the $100-120 ranged (drilled). Problem is I'm not close to any of those shops - I live in an area dominated by Bowl America and the few AMF centers that I'm aware of do not have shops - the ones that did were independent drillers that didn't necessarily carry AMF products, and have since been given the boot to make way for video games, shoe storage, etc.

Anyways, point being is that it's a proven cover on a proven core for a very nice price. That makes it a good versatile ball to play around with different drillings, cover changes, etc.

I'm pretty sure they are now discontinued. The core (from the Triumph) was rumored to be the same, but the coverstock always seemed to have the possibility of being different. They were supposed to all be Superflex, but some of them had coloration exactly like first run equipment from C300, Track, and AMF.

Local shop had a bunch of them when they came out and his opinion was that they were a great ball for what you paid. They did what you'd expect when you laid them out.

On edit - If you already knew the answer. why'd you bother asking?

All had triumph cores, and super-flex covers. As for the reason why, basically when we bled the lines here in between balls we made these runs. Rather than throw away unused cover material we decided to make something that we could sell at a cheap price but yet make a return on. These balls were quite popular at the beginning, they all rolled somewhat similar but i guess the cool thing was they all looked different in some way. HP core, and a proven cover for $100 retail... You cant beat that even if you arent 100% sure what it is.

I'm not quite sure I understand - to what did I already know the answer?

I was asking if the ball is still being made, or if it is still available.

None of my local pro shops carry AMF products - it was like pulling teeth to get them to order the 1 AMF ball I bought a few years ago. For some reason they just don't carry them, and don't even like to order them! I've had to resort to purchasing my AMF balls on-line.

I would like to find and purchase a few. Other than a few people on here and AMF's website, nobody seems to have heard of them.

I guess I was hoping that somebody would come on here and say "yes, they are still around. "X" shop sells them for $100 drilled. Call them at xxxxxxx and maybe they will be willing to ship them to you."

Or, that somebody would say - "They are limited runs and only got distributed to "y," it'll be nearly impossible to find them."

And, I guess now that we know 300Global is going to be making AMF300 stuff, I guess I'd like to know if they plan to continue making the Changeling, or if that was just something they did because they were in control of the manufacturing process. Now that they MAY be outsourcing the production I can understand if they choose not to produce the ball anymore.

Like Eric said, for $100 drilled, you can't beat the price. As you said, they tend to react how you lay them out, so it's a good way to experiment with different layouts without spending a ton of money.

They are not manufactured anymore due to the USBC not approving them. Basically because the covers (color, particular blends etc.) change from ball to ball they wanted us to submit a ball for approval and pay the fees for the approval process each time we produced a new run. At first they let us approve just one ball, and thought the changes were simply just colors, but after a few complaints from other "sources" cough cough, the USBC came to their decision which in their defense makes sense. We didnt fight this battle because they were right so we stopped making them all together. Hope this helps clear some things up.

Interesting.

It's still listed on the approved balls list. I guess the ones that are out there are still okay for use in sanctioned events?

Thanks for clearing up that they will no longer be manufactured.

Thanks. I just bought some Circle balls from Next Level PS - I'm hoping they'll be just as versatile. I was just looking for some cheaper balls to experiment with layouts.

You won't be disappointed with Circle balls. I have a Full Tilt drilled, NIB Full Tilt and a NIB Tilt. My Full Tilt out hooks my Power Machine on the backend by 3 - 4 boards.
