I don't know how to best put this without sounding like a slam...but I almost feel like saying good riddance.
I have a Velocity that I spent six months looking for only to end up with something completely different than what I wanted in terms of reaction. My driller and I adjusted and adjusted until I finally had something playable, but the ball was too condition-specific and rarely even went in the bag, much less came out of it at a bowling center.
Well, tonight I go to the nice, soft ball bag it's been sitting in for the last three weeks, and take it out in order to put it in the new bowling ball racks I have in the living room of my new home.
The ball is practically split in half. There's a crack running from 10:30 to 4:30 on this ball, through the thumbhole, that goes all the way around. Because of the way I have it drilled, part of the crack goes through the "AMF" and the serial number, and the paint doesn't line up anymore, it's cracked so badly.
This ball always had a soft place to sit, was never left in a car and was maintained well, and was thrown for maybe the equivalent of 30 games its entire life.
Now, it's a practice drilling ball, since I'm about to start drilling my own stuff.
Given that Global 300 is taking over AMF, I'd like to take this opportunity to say "skew you" to the Columbia cover on this ball and hope for something better the next time around. I was once an AMF die-hard and I still have a Bone XS with at least 1,000 games that I throw occasionally. I really hope AMF's next generation is better than its last.
