which two
« on: February 18, 2010, 09:00:32 AM »
after a lot of research I have decided to get two AMF bowling balls. Was going to get the Clutch and the Sideways, but after seeing the reviews for the Mega Recovery and Clutch Pearl, I am torn. Nobody throws AMF here, so I come to the experts here for their opinions. Want to cover the most conditions possible, med light to med heavy. Will add a heavy oil and a dry lanes ball later. Am a med. speed, med. revs guy, and throw most of the time on a THS, with a few tournament on tougher lanes thrown in. So, go Clutch and Clutch Pearl, MR and Sideways, or MR and Clutch Pearl. Help a confused bowler out. Thanks to everyone for there help.

I LOVE my Sideways and it will handle more oil than the Clutch Pearl.

I would highly recommend the Mega Recovery but it does need oil to shine. I suppose you could polish it up if you wanted to tame it down for medium conditions.

I would start with these 3 and leave them all box finish:

Mega Recovery-Heavy oil
Sideways-Medium Oil
Clutch Pearl-light to Medium Oil

Good luck. AMF is making some great stuff right now and thier customer service is A+++. I can vouch for that.

Having thrown them all I would go with Sideways and Recovery.

I will say the Sideways is a good ball, but mine hates carrydow, I mean hates it. I am going to put a P3 hole in it and see if it helps drive through it.

the sideways is awesome.  did see over/under reaction with it, but i knocked a
wee bit of polish off with a white scuff pad and it worked wonders.  Clutch is
an awesome piece too!  Hype Urethane is a phenomenal ball if you want to stay
close to the ditch.  The Mega Recovery, I will find out shortly.  but if you
want to stay within the med. light to med. heavy, I would say Clutch, Clutch
Pearl, Sideways as your choices.  for the lighter side, the Orbit line and Hype
line.  for Heavy stuff, the Mega line.

Also dont forget about the Code and Nkryption Code!  Two of my favorite pieces
that they came out with.  But all the combos you suggested sound good.

You can also contact Bo Littlefield who is a member on here.  He has drilled about 20 balls for me and I have never had a problem and I live about 900-1200 miles away.

I have been VERY dissapointed with my Clutch and Sideways.  For me these balls just didn't resopond they way I had expected...For me, I really liked the AMF N'kryption Code and Urethane Hype, easily two of the best balls that I have ever thrown.

i am a huge amf fan and if you can get a code that is the way to go.  the sideways is one of the worst balls i have ever tried but eveything else of amf is real good. on the sideways i have tried surface adjustments, weight holes and even complete redrill and was completely disapointed in this piece. i also tried it in three different house( 2 wood 1 syth.) and would not recommend this ball ever. Amf still has other great balls but they really missed on this one

i use a villian and a smoke and haven't found a condition that these balls won't work on yet in my area.  if you can still find a villian, its a very versatile ball with the polish knocked off of it, it can be used easily on med heavy.  good luck with your choices.
