Dexter SST8 or 3G Tour Ultras
« on: April 21, 2012, 11:16:11 AM »
I have a pair of 5 yr old Dynorooz tour ultras that have been great except the non slide shoe has come unstitched/glued near the toe cap. Is this a problem on the 3Gs as well. Looking for opinions on the 2 shoes. Thank you

Have never had Dexters, but I've had 3G Tour Ultras for a few years now and I LOVE THEM!  I don't have a pair of regular or work shoes that are as comfortable.

I love the Tour Ultras!  My non-slid toe cap is getting worn too, and I use the shoes several times a week and had them for a couple of years. Other than the toe cap, the shoes still look new. Because of my slide, the tip of my shoe drags on the approach, so I just had to use a little super glue to fix it because it was starting to split a little at the seam. Fixed it a few months ago and haven't had any problems so far.  I will not hesitate to get another pair after these get warn out.  I might just buy a new toe cap and take the shoe to a shoe repair shop to replace it if I decide not to get a new pair.

I know it sounds like I'm in denial, but I'm not.

Yeah, there is no better shoe than the Tour Ultra's. I grew up on Linds, then Dexters, and finally I splurged on this new brand of bowling shoe. 8 years laters I still have the same pair of shoes and they still look brand new. Mind you I bowl well over 20 games a week. Honestly, there is no better product in the bowling industry than Tour Ultra's.

I've been wearing 3G Tour Ultra's since 2005 or so and wouldn't think of changing brands.

The 3Gs and the SST8s are different style shoes, and you need to choose based on your individual needs. The argument that SST8s have widespread issues are bogus. I've logged between 1500 - 2000 games on my current pair, and there is minimal visible wear.

I went with the Dexters because my feet need more support than the 3Gs provide. But to each his own. Try on both and make an educated decision.

I own both.  I rotate them, one week with the Dexters, one week for 3G's.  They are both great shoes and I like them equally well.  You cannot go wrong using either one...

switched from sst8 to the tour ultra because Dexters have a seam in the heel. I have 2 pair of Dexters and that seam has ripped on both of them on the g3 tour ultra no seam no tear. For those that have to replace toe cap on the g3 I have done it twice on my 3 year old pair and the glue that works best is Gorilla glue. going to get me a new pair at the end of this year.
