finger tape??
« on: July 25, 2009, 08:37:17 AM »
I recently had a span change and now I'm tearing my fingers up more then normal. Wondering if anyone has tryed vise bio skin , turbo patch tape or any of the other brands finger tape that is out there. Any advice good or bad would be great.

honestly if the change is tearing up your fingers....might want to change back. What exactly changed? Im not trying to change the tape subject, I feel getting you fit properly is 1st priority.

Precisely right.

If the recent change has not been for the better, as apparently is the case, then try to find out what the problem may be, with the help of a Competent driller, of course.

Since you mentioned that "now I'm tearing my fingers up more then normal", it appears that your previous hand measurements were not exactly correct either.  So, if your current driller is not capable of figuring out what the problem may be, perhaps you should seek the services of a more astute and reliable driller--hopefully there exists one around your parts.

Throwing the ball properly is tough enough when the ball sits properly on the hand, but when coupled with improper measurements, it becomes damn nearly impossible to bowl, especially if the hand is tearing up and causing undue pain

Going back is not a choice for me. The pain i had in my hand and forearm are just about gone. I have always tore fingers up a little and now just looking for better option. I have always used  Brunswick Defense Skin Protection Liquid
but when i put the patch on it tears around the patch . So its not really tearing the area under the patch. So i am looking for other options . Span, pitch, and holes have all been rechecked by my driller along with his 2 bosses . Everything has checked out.

I tried some Vise-Grip finger tape (like Wes Mallott) and some Turbo finger tape. Both require finger holes at least one size larger. I never really got comfortable using them. They require a relatively firm winding around to keep the tape secure to the fingers. This, in turn, forces the blood to the fingertips, even if just a little. Also, the tape always seems to slip just a little, even the more slippery of the tapes (and they're not that slippery).
Also I use finger inserts which tend to be tackier than drilled holes, so that might be part of my problem.

I decided to use less tacky inserts and live with a certain amount of cracked skin.

I used this Vise Bio Skin,

And liked it because it was less tacky, but it held fine.

And I used this Turbo Skin tape,
http://www.buddiesproshop.com/product/3920/Turbo_2-N-1_S3_Skin_Tape_-_3_inch_wide.htm
And liked it also because it was tacky. Gave me a secure grip.

Pick your poison.

I uses the Vise finger tape, tan in color. Wrap a layer around the base of my thumb at the web, and then a second layer overlapping to about half way up my thumbnail. You do have to wrap the tape firmly, but I have had no problems with circulation.

The tape is not thick at all and for me is no different than puting a piece of tape in my thumbhole. I do recommend cleaning your thumb with alcohol or  baall cleaner, whatever is handy, as it will help the tape to stick to your thumb.

The tape will save your thumb. Experiment with it and give it a chance. Once you get use  to it, you will get a more consistent feel than without it. It is much better then the skin patches.
