Hardest Inserts?
« on: January 10, 2008, 02:40:43 AM »
Who makes the toughest/hardest inserts?  I'm not quite ready to give inserts up for good, but I burn through them so fast....

if you burn through them fast maybe there too tight, usually the problem I have seen.  From throwing vise and turbo, vise last longer but the feel of turbo is a little better

That's my problem, I like a really tight insert.  When they start to wear, I notice that I'll shove my fingers deeper to keep them feeling tight.  I'll check into the vise. Thanks for the input.

so you say you wear them off?

Unbelievable...

Well I do this when the inserts get to wide.. I lose them a tad and put something between insert and coverstock to "tighten" them agian.

Don't know if that's an option for you.

The "put-some-tape-between-insert-and-ball" works well, I have practiced this, too, when the inserts started to wear off and I had no opportunity to replace them on short notice.

As an alternative for something durable, you might try to drill the ball without inserts, but use some cork tape instead. These are hard, not as thin as standard tape, but offer very good grip. You can also place normal tape under them for adjustments.

Many people like myself that use the power lift side of Turbo Quads don't like Vise with the power lift side because the pitch is different. On Turbo quads, the power lift side has 1/8" pitch whereas the power lift side of the Vise has 1/4" pitch and then vise versa on this also.  What I am trying to say is that it isn't easy to switch from one brand to the other, especially for people that are sensitive to feel like I am.
