New SST 8 shoes online vs local shops
« on: August 27, 2011, 12:54:17 PM »
I have always backed my local pro shop, and have ordered the new shoes from him at $220, but now am seeing them online for $150.
Hate to have him cancel the order, but come on $70 difference for an item he doesn't have in stock.
Time to make the call on Monday, when the shop opens.
I have dealt with this shop for quite some time, and even paid $20 more then online for my last ball, but I have to watch the funds.
What do you all think?

I would NEVER buy shoes from a proshop. Shoes/Bags are all I purchase online

220 is quite the price, I bought mine from the local pro shop and got them for like 155 or something. I use the same principle as yourself in supporting my brick and mortar shop and even bought a bag from them even after they suggested that online may be the cheaper way to go.

Explain to the pro shop operator the situation. Maybe he can do a little better. Maybe not. If he is reasonable, he'll understand that 70.00 difference is alot of money. Who can blame you on something that he is just a middleman on.

this is the reason that all the companies are working toward or have gone to minimum pricing.  The online shops purchase higher quantities so they can sell for less.  Etonic has gone to minimum pricing on their high end shoes and dexter, I have been told, is working on the same thing.

As I stated early on, I have stayed local in the past, but over $200, for the same item, had to save the funds, and get it online.
Will still get my bowling balls at the pro shop, but going to shop online for other items.

Well new shoes arrived today, so went out to try them out tonight and have to say seem to like the S8 sole the best.
Threw 4 games 224, 193, 201, 212, granted it was only a practice session with the wife, but like the feel of the shoes.

If the difference was $10-$15 you may consider supporting your local shop but $70 is a no-brainer. Buy online and put the money saved to better use.
