I went from the SST 6 to the SST 8 and the only real difference i felt was the width. I don't know if it's because mine were so old or not, but still not a big deal. After a week i didn't notice any more. Also the new soles are cheap and not leather like on my SST 6, but again, I got used to them pretty fast. Very good shoe.

 Had the original white 8's for about a year with heavy use. They sole broke in half right behind the slide sole and I had to finish the year with a sneaker. Thats the bad, the good is I contacted Dexter and they replaced my shoes without question with the new white ones. I an skeptical of the durability, to be honest, but still love the shoes.

I'm also considering a pair of SST 8's but I am concerned about the durability and the design. The idea of wholly interchangeable soles and heels (i.e. from left to righthanded or vice-versa) actually seems very lame to me, and I am concerned that the feel of these shoes will be compromised by this design. On the plus side, they look pretty cool, and while it may seem kinda silly I do like to have stylish shoes. ;-)
I currently have SST 6's but they feel like they might need replacing soon. To be honest, I've never really liked the Dexter heels and soles apart from ONE heel and ONE sole, and even with the heel I had to apply teflon tape to the horseshoe tips to allow for the correct braking. Nonetheless, since I am now used to this, I am reluctant to try a different brand shoe. Also, I wear a wide width, which pretty much rules out the 3G option.
Anyway, any SST 8 wearers out there who have any more feedback on these shoes? Is there anything that would make the SST 8's slide differently than the SST 6's (apart from the buckskin #8 sole vs. the microfiber #8 sole, which I already know about)?

I have had to break myself from dragging my right toe just to save what's left of my sst 6'z. It was a timing issue for me but I knew it was fix that or I wouldn't have any shoes left.

Dexter makes a great shoe but I do not feel they have the durability that they did a few years ago.

I am in the market for replacement shoes as my 3-G Tour Ultra push sole has flat spotted on the ball of my foot after 4 years of heavy use.

I am under the impression that the 3G's are all medium width, and I need a wide width. As such, I can't consider the 3G's.

I got a pair of the sst-8 se. Fit wise they felt good but I felt there is a bit of an arch in the 8's compare to my 5's. One thing that I didn't like and why I got rid of them is that on the non slide shoe I have a toe drag on the inside of it, and the inside part of the rubber sole came apart from the bottom of the shoe. I have since went back and bought a new pair of sst-5. Personally feel that the only one to benefit from the interchangeable left and right is the shoe company cause they only have to make one shoe, but still charge you more.
