SST5 Heel removal?

I just got the H7 replacement heel to try out and it says to peel the old heel off from the rear, which I can't do with my bare hands.  I think I can peel it off from the front by hand but I'm wondering what others are doing.  I could use a pair of needle nosed pliers or stick a screwdriver in from the rear to get it started but figured I'd ask first.

One more Question.  The Velcro area of the shoe is longer than the H5 heel by at least 1/4", would you cut the Leather H7 to the size of the H5 or to the size of the Velcro area?

Are you sure they are SST5's?  Some of the older models where only the sole is removable look pretty similar.  They should be that hard to remove.  If I am reading your post right, I would probably trim the heel to the size of the Velcro.

Yes, their the SST5 comfort.  I just can't get enough grip at the back of the heel with my fingers.  I've already tried two other soles.

The first time i've had to change the heels on my SST 7's and 6's i've had to use my keys or a screwdriver to undo the velcro.  I don't think you can hurt anything by prying it off.

And the heels should fit your shoes out of the package.  I haven't had to cut any of my heels yet, almost all of my soles yes, because I got several old styles for the old 5's that didn't fit the 7's.  Make sure you got the right sized heels and for the right shoe, iirc they might be specific for the generation of SST 5's new or old.

backswing, thanks for the reply.  It's my understanding Dexter has gone to generic sizes, to save $$.  I got mine from Bowlingball.com and maybe I should have asked for it to fit my specific shoe size, in the hope that they had some old stock, but size was not listed as an option.  The Dexter instructions suggest takeing them to a cobbler to get them cut to fit.  What a PITA, way to go, Dexter!  I will definitely have to trim the sides but was wondering if I should allow the heel to extend futher forward to cover the whole velcro area, unlike the H5 heel that came on the shoe.

I've seen lots of different ways of applying the heels.  I have a ribbed one offset to the left because my toe always finishes to the right with my heel pointing forward, this allows me to still slide straight.  I've seen some crankers invert some of the ribbed heels to completely stop at the line, and I've seen the slide soles cut to fit for the heels.  So go ahead and try whatever you think is neccessary.  There is no "correct" way to wear them do whatever feels best.

Oh and don't worry about the velcro, there's no way to slide on it if the heel is on there, you're raised up from the arch support.  I have a ribbed brake for a size 8 shoe (I wear 11), velcro is sticking out everywhere, no problems.
