Scratch Doubles-Week #9-And the 1st season winner is...
« on: November 12, 2008, 12:04:29 PM »
Hammerheads! Congrats tdoty814 and Matt Fortney. Great last week for both. They had a 589 one game and an 1603 series. Now that's some good bowling when the chips on on the line.

Let me know how everyone liked the double points the last week. It's actually triple when you add everything up. We can vote on it for the next 2 thirds.

Here are the scores...

I know this means nothing in terms of life but bragging rights, but triple points the knockdown week doesn't make sense.  If we run an 18 point system all third, it shouldn't change for knockdowns.  Just my opinion.

I thought that it would make things fun and interesting but I may have been wrong. We can vote to change it. I can make a new post for everyone to vote on it if that's what some people want.

Congrats Hammerheads, bragging rights are yours.

Funny how on a league of 80 bowlers, there are 12 bowlers who are 237 +, and 20 who are 230 +, just seems strange on a "fun" league.  I'm not calling anyone a cheater, it just seems there are a LOT of VERY high averages compared to the norm, that's all.  Good luck to everyone in the 2nd half...

You should put it in the week 11 post, because some people won't look up a voting topic specifically.

That way, they can report their scores and then just say "Yes or No" after their numbers.

Personally, no preference on points. I love how I'm averaging 220 and my points are 13 W 19 L...something's fishy there...

It a scratch league on a bowling website. You're going to attract some very, very good bowlers. most 175 avg bowlers don't even know about this site. Just the bowling fanatics who can't get enough. The high average's do not surprise me one bit.

If I'm not mistaken, he's saying that you're in denial about people not fudging their scores. He agrees with me and thinks there are people out there dabbling a bit in the mathematical leverage they can gain by the fact that they don't have to prove their scores.

Personally, like I said, I don't care. It's no big deal...just seems odd that I'm under .500 with a 220 average.

Exactly. I could really care less, it just takes a bit of the fun away when some people are cheating and some people are posting their real scores week to week, regardless of whether they crowbar the joint or are in a massive slump. I know for a fact (based on info from others and two seconds spent on bowl.com out of curiosity) that some people fudged their scores last year and this year, but not wanting to sh** in anyone's cereal, I'll keep those names to myself.

Nice bowling everyone.

On the double points thing, what ever the consensus wants is fine with me.

Hog,

I understand your point.  My issue with doubling or tripling points is that it allows teams that were inferior all third to suddenly have a chance to win.  This gave teams who were mediocre all third an opportunity to go flying up the charts since they had one really good week.  I am all for giving people a chance, but only to those who have performed all third an opportunity.  For example, if I read the standings correct, there would have been only about 5 or 6 teams with a chance to win the third.  By tripling the points, this let in several other teams who I feel didn't deserve it based upon their performance all third.  Mine isn't the only opinion.  We had a real league that doubled points for the knockdown, and that rule was dissolved rather quickly for the reason I explained.  Either way is fine, I will still report my scores as usual.  No matter what, I appreciate you even running the league at all.

Wow, that was a lot to type.

We're all bowling on a house shot, 220 is nothing these days, not to be rude, but cant expect to win every week with that on a league with good scratch bowlers.
