Balling breaking to late
« on: February 20, 2008, 08:41:53 AM »
What causes the ball to break to late? Many times when I ball I get the ball out a little bit and it never makes it back to the pocket. Sometimes I will even hit the same mark and I wont get the same result because the ball breaks to late.

Be a little more specific. I dont have 3 months to type out all the reasons why, but if you narrow it down what you think is happening we might be able to help.

Simple not even friction whether it is carrydown or just too much oil on the lane, probably caused from being too far inside from lack of rev rate and/or tilt.

I think it could my ball speed, or the way the ball is coming off my hand. It really could be any combanation of things. The pro-shop guys there told I was spinning the ball, but didnt want to help me fix it...so for all I know it could be because im spinning the ball.

Then it is not a ball problem in itself, rather a release thing. The asnwer is simple, but hard to come by: stay behind the ball throughout your whole delivery. You will tend to break your wrist in the downswing, coming "around" the ball at its side and probably releasing it with the thumb pointing downward. The result is a low track with a small diameter. The ball just spins downlane, never getting into a roll.

While you can open up the ball's surface to increase friction and cahnces that it gets to finish, I would rather work on your delivery - keep your wrist firm and straight, and try to chase or push the ball with your ring finger as you let it go towards your target. The release is good if you get the thumb out of the ball first and feel the ball "roll" over your fingertips, forward, and you should see a dramatic change of ball reaction.

Good luck, though, easier said than done, and maybe ask a local coach for additional help.
