Deciding on a new ball-different than others posted
« on: December 30, 2004, 06:43:03 AM »
Hello,
I've read most of the threads on which balls to buy, etc.  This is a little different.

First off, I'm currently using a Target Zone 16, and do quite well with it.  I will be getting a new ball soon, one that is more made to hook and not go as straight.  I was wondering if it is advisable to buy a lighter ball, maybe a 14 or 15 if I am looking to start hooking?  I am 6'3", 225, and can easily handle the 16, but that's with straight bowling.

What do you think?

I feel addicted already,
Is there help available?

If you're comfortable with 16 and you're able to rotate your hand around the ball to get side roll on it, then stick with 16.  If you drop down to 15, and plan to keep the target zone for spares, buy a spare ball in 15.

If it's not already, get the target zone plugged and redrilled finger tip and see how that ball feels when you try to hook it.

I agree, don't change weights unless you don't think you can control or handle a 16. There will come a time, as age gets you, you will have to drop down, but doing it now, you might start over throwing a lighter ball. Sounds silly, but  a lot of people drop in weights and "over throw" due to the lighter ball. I'm old, I had to drop down, your time will come, don't rush it !!
Have fun...enjoy!!
