Finger Tip Balls
« on: August 25, 2006, 12:42:06 PM »
I've been bowling for 20+ years, I throw a fairly straight ball and have a 150 average.  I have always wanted to develop more of a hook and have tried throwing my ball different ways without too much success.  A friend of mine suggested that I try throwing a finger tip ball.  So I have two questions... What if anything will this do for me?  And... I throw a 15 lb ball now should I have a lighter ball  drilled for this?

Thanks for your help

If you have no trouble controlling the 15# ball now, I wouldn't drop in weight.  With a properly fitting ball, you shouldn't really have any trouble holding onto a fingertip-drilled ball.

It is VERY difficult to hook a conventionally drilled ball.  It can be done, but you will always get more lift with a fingertip ball.  If its drilled right, you can definitely stay with the same weight ball.  It may take awhile to get use to, and you may need to make small span/pitch adjustments until its comfortable, but ultimately fingertip allows for more comfort, lift, and control.
