First Performance Ball
« on: January 25, 2009, 01:48:24 AM »
Hello, I am in the process of moving up from my Brunswick PowerGroove ball to a better performance ball. I'm an intermediate bowler averaging 140-160's. I'm a stroker w/ medium speed and revs. I typically throw on average house lanes with medium dry to medium oil. Since I just joined my first league I want to step my game up.

I've done a ton of research and I am now at the cross roads between a Brunswick Red Zone and a Storm Hy Road ball.

Any suggestions?

Thanks folks.

2 good balls. I may opt for the Hy-Road here. I think the cover will play better on more conditions while still being controllable. JMO.

Good luck!

I'd say the HyRoad would be a better fit for what you bowl on right now, but if you plan on going to some tournaments or bowling in other houses with different shots, the Red Zone would be the better choice. They're both an upgrade over the Power Grooves (which are still great for lighter oil conditions if you can get them to carry the corners) so you can't really go wrong.

As always, consult with your local pro shop operator and have him watch you throw a few balls with the Power Groove, he may be able to suggest a completely different ball and the drilling to go with it.

Thanks you guys for the insight. I am really on the fence with these two balls. More than likely I may give Hy Road a shot. tuckingfenpin you got an excellent point, I will give the pro shop that drilled my power groove a call and see if they can help out on a recommendation.

Never thought I would get hooked on bowling. (No pun intended)
