Tore up my wrist
« on: October 15, 2003, 01:00:09 AM »
Just a quick newbie question. I just started bowling in a league. I had not really bowled that frequently before even though I owned my own ball. I went 2-3 weeks no problems. Then I ended up bowling 2 extra games after league and then 3 more 2 days later. That night my wrist was killing me and after seeing a doc it's most likely tendonitis(sp). Well to make a long story short I'm wondering if I was throwing the ball wrong or if it was just the extreme jump in bowling. At the time I bowled straight on using a 16lb plastic. I just recently bought a 16lb power groove reactive. Any thought's or anyone else have this problem when they started bowling 10-12 games a week?

In my first month or two of bowling, I got tendonitis as well.  I got it from like bowling 24 games in 24 hours or so though.  I just stopped bowling for about 3 weeks, and it healed.  I'm not sure how you get tendonitis from those few games.  I suppose your wrist isn't strong enough yet.  So just take it easy for awhile and let your arm strength build up.  If you have any more questions, feel free to message me.

As a bowler who has done the same thing, and fought tendonitis for the last 8 years -
a. If you can, drop a pound in weight.
b. Get some sort of brace - not the "dial a hook" variety - just something that will support the BACK of your wrist. Master has a good one.
c. Do some exercises to help strengthen your wrist. a 1-2 pound weight, or even a soup can, can do wonders.
