Actually Eddie M is right! Balance....balance!

Your high right leg kick would make Mr. Grammatica jealous! : )

Naw, but really, because you're not posting on balance at the line, you are pulling yourself off to the right, and incurring errant shots on occasion.

Keep your feet on to the target.  That could help your knees a bit too !!!

Thanks for the comments. My balance has always been a little bit of an issue but only when I'm really trying to put more hand in the ball. I'll work on that one over the summmer. Feet too the target, i've had that problem since I started bowling. Whats the best way too stop it from happening? I've tried a few things but i just can't keep it straight!

One suggestion to help your balance.

Watch the path of your right hand in the video.  In the push away, and back swing it is good.  Then in the forward swing, your hand comes all the way around to the side of the ball.  And at release, the palm of your hand is almost completely facing to the left.  So instead of lifting up the back of the ball, you are lifting up the right side of it... and that in turn pulls you off balance to the right.  I would work on getting your hand behind the ball.

Well, the last post got it right. With my knee all messed up I went bowling tonight too try it out for youth league tomorrow and I had to keep my leg down cause it hurt like hell if I did kick it up. So being that I was forced too keep my leg down my balance was perfect and my scores reflected it as well. My foot too the target was better with my balance too. Without the feeling that my knee was about to explode all night I was very happy with how i was bowling. Thanks for the insite.

This observation could not be more wrong. The reason he is off balance is not becasue of his release, but because his right leg is kicked too high and too far behind him. Couple that with a near stiff slide leg and now you have a bowler is off ballance.

Did you ever stop to think, that maybe both are causing him to be off balance?  While I agree with the things you point out, I also know from experience that his release is going to cause him problems regardless of how solid is approach becomes.

Man you need to learn something about the physical aspects of bowling. If you think that hand position will throw off your balance then there is more to you being out of balance than hand position. Luke can you do an experiment for me? Can you throw the ball both with your current hand release and up the back and with leg kicked high and not kicked high and get back to us with the results since you telling Eddie that what I suggested worked. Thanks. This is one of the things going wrong with this forum. People giving advice when they do not fully grasp this game.

And if you knew half of what you think you do, you would understand that what you just said shows how much you yourself don't understand about the game.

The kid in the video is so far around the side of the ball, that even if he fixes everything other people mentioned, he is going to have issues.  I love it that everyone thinks their individual games are so solid, that it only takes one adjustment to make it perfect.  Rarely is there a person in bowling who has a game that good.  Not you, not me.. that is for sure.

45 degrees to the lane.. yes.  45 degrees to his body... no.

Run the video, and stop it at his release point.  You will see his shoulders are opened to about 30 degrees, and his hand is at about 60 degrees on the ball.  How the ball hits the lane isn't my point, it is where his body is in relation to the ball in his hand at release.

I also see several other things he could work on, that would directly help with the ball position, and slide.

1. he dips his shoulder alot throughout the swing
2. he never squares his shoulders up, even after his release, his left shoulder is far out in front of the throwing shoulder
3. his body is constantly open to the lane.
4. he gets down thru his approach, but only at the waist, he needs to get lower with his knees, and keep the upper body a bit more solid.

Any of these, and the combination of all these, will cause his stiff front leg and awkward trail leg swing.  The slide is a product of the approach.  Fix the approach, and the slide will fall more into place... not the other way around.  Once the approach is better, tweaking at the foul line will be more productive.

What I see on the video, is pretty typical of what I see from alot of younger bowlers.... heck.. from a lot of bowlers period.  They have basically learned to throw the ball on their own, but the fundamentals are a little flawed.

Eddie, all those points are very true. My shoulders are all out of wack i have tried too fix it many many times but now i just cope with it. As you know I am only 16 and im now just starting too come back under the ball. Might not be right where I want it too be but its far along from last year when i was a full roller. My wrist was still healing from when i broke it and regaining strength and I was growing it was phycially impossible for me too stay under the ball because my wrist was so weak. But now it getting better. I track over the thumb hole sometimes, my track comes VERY close too my thumb hole. But all these points are true now that I look at it.

Kulaygatas, I will try your experiment in youth leauge today and get back too you.

And as a note i am playing the shot in these videos which is a dry outside line shot so if i don't my shoulders the ball comes high, everytime. Last weekend when i shot on a sport shot my release was totally up the back of the ball. My shoulders were square or even towards the left cause if i got the ball outside it was not coming back and actually had to hit a mark, not an area on the lane like at my house. I believe there are two people on here that bowled in that tourney who can somewhat back that up.

Thanks again for all the insite, im now realizing the little problems in my game.
