Me Bowling
« on: November 28, 2008, 10:35:18 AM »
My family and I went and did a little open bowling today.  Asked my father if he would take some video of me.  Figured I would post it up on here.

I apologize for all the small clips...I've gotta gets some editing software so I can combine them.  Sorry bout the quality too, but they are what they are.

I would definitely not mind some constructive criticism, but if you are just gonna blast me or make fun of me, then don't bother posting....thanks guys.

I was just hoping that a few more people would watch it and see if they could spot any large problems.  Thats all, just seeing if anyone can spot any big errors.  I feel like I have been throwing the ball well but haven't been scoring lately and its been getting kinda frustrating.

Spider, thanks.  I'll keep that in mind tomorrow night.

It just looks like you're aiming it from the videos.  Remember you're throwing through the arrows, not to them

Definitely been a problem that I have battled for a long time.

Any ideas on things I can do to try and correct it?

I am familiar with Albany. What house is that? I was actually bowing at Towne Academy in Rotterdam this weekend.

Maybe it's just me but you seem to throw the ball too slow. I don't see you pushing the ball out and letting it drop, so I suspect your arm swing isn't as free as it could be. Something is robbing you of speed though and the swing looks a little controlled.

I also notice you load the wrist up in your starting position. Try unloading it a little and see if it helps. What could happen is as you push the ball away and let it drop, your wrist is going to naturally straighten out. This is adding extra pressure to the finger tips in the down swing since the weight of the ball is more on the fingers than the entire palm as you start it out.

Your backswing also loops a little bit behind your back. You could try starting the ball closer in to the center of your chest to correct it, which takes zero concentration to change, so it's easy to do.

Other than that it looks great. Nice and fluid.

That house is actually in Fayettville, NY.  I went to college in Albany, but now I live back in Syracuse where I grew up.

What type of computer do you have and what operating system is on it?  If it is a windows based pc ( or laptop with windows ), you should have something called windows movie maker on it.  That is a bit crude, but would allow you to stick all your small files end-to-end and make one longer video out of all of them.

I don't know much but from what i've seen you have a solid game, but some areas that u might want to focus on is:

1) NO PUSHAWAY. It seems that u lower the ball on you first step and this might cause u to partially muscle your armswing. The pushaway should be perpendicular to the body, by doing this gravity and the momentum created will help you to increase your speed.
2) your armswing is not straight, it wraps behind your back. This will make it difficult to repeat shots on a more tough condition.

DEFEAT is only MOMENTARY!!!!!!

LONG is the way and HARD is the road to go from amateur to professional!!

Good style overall. Especially your release and position at the line.

Suggested areas for improvement should you like to develop your game a bit.

1) More pronounced pushaway in tune with your first step.

2) More relaxed backswing. Easier with a more pronounced pushaway.

3) Straighter backswing. Should be easier with a more relaxed backswing.

Should make it easier for you to repeat shots on tougher lane conditions.

Thanks a lot guys!!  You have given me a few things to work on tonite at my league and see if they make any difference.  Reincorporatiing a pushaway shouldn't be too hard.  I used to have to have one, but went away from it a few months ago because I felt that the pushaway was causing my arm to lag behind my body, timing wise.

I've been working on trying to keep my backswing from going behind me.  I've gotten to where it only happens occasionally, but thats still too much.  I try to visualize the backswing that Mike Wolfe has and try to use that as a basis.

Thanks guys, I'll keep you updated on how things go tonite.
