299 with the Versamax
« on: November 02, 2012, 08:28:44 AM »
I was voicing some frustration about this ball in another thread I started, but what a difference a resurface makes!

I tried this ball at 1000 polished (my standard benchmark surface), 2000, and 500 + compound and it was a complete dud. I took it back to OOB (500/compound/polish) and yesterday busted it out on a freshly oiled house shot.  I left a flat 7 (aargh!) for a 299 -- my highest game ever!

I don't think I realized how strong the cover is.  But after adding polish, the ball went effortlessly through the mids.  Standing on 22 it would break at 10 in a gentle arc and get it's business done.

I have had so much success with Brunswick's new equipment that it might be time to dump all of their old equipment I am still using (Quantums, Rhino Pros, etc.)  ;D

You guys were all right about this ball!

299 is still a great game!

Surface, surface, surface!  No two of us bowl on the exact same conditions, let alone the differences in our physical games.  Be ready to tweak any ball, because Brunswick (or any other manufacturer) cannot possibly find a surface that fits us all.

Good bowling! Keep up the high scores. I agree with notclay about surface changes. I usually change the surfaces from factory if it doesn't perform they way I expected.

My Ulti Max a total dud with factory 500 and rough buff.

Added Brunswick Factory Polish.  Now a real STUD...on my shot!
