Looking for new ball for Nationals
« on: December 27, 2009, 02:45:41 AM »
Guys, I'm looking at getting either the Diamondback or the Siege for use at Nationals in February.  The Diamondback looks like it would be a good choice and is less $$ than a Siege but if any of you have thrown both balls, would I be missing something by buying the Diamondback over the Siege?  I'm also planning to use the RICO layout on this ball as I will use it for sport lane or PBA Experience lane conditions.

Given that nobody really knows how the shot is going to play at Nationals, you probably won't get a reply back until it starts, which sounds like it may be too late for you.

I would not suggest a RICO layout on either of these balls. They are both in my opinion to smmoth for that layout. You may be different though. The DiamondBack is a little more versitle due the it being a little weaker than the Seige. The Seige is really strong.

Going out to nationals you want a benchmark type of ball that will handle some oil.  It is very hard to make a recommendation for you because we don't have enough information about how you throw the ball to be accurate.  However, as a general recommendation I would say the Diamondback would be a better choice than the Siege and the Wild Card may be a better choice than both.  Activator Coverstock is very versatile but the Connexion Cover is also, and it also handles carrydown better than activator.  The Siege may be too much ball.

Really appreciate the feedback Adam & Chris.  I'm leaning toward the Diamondback but the Wild Card sounds like a real good option.  I average around 16.5 to 17.0 mph with a 320 rev rate and typically match up well with Brunswick equipment.  I'll talk to my ball driller to discuss the layout.  Is the Activator solid coverstock the same one Big B used on the reissue of the Ultimate Inferno?  One of my league teammates has been on a tear with the UI and I'm wondering if I will see a similar kind of ball motion from the Diamondback.
