Classic Zone Questions

Hi,
i remembered reading somewhere that the Zone Classic has got 2 makes just like the X-Zone (high diff and low diff with diff colour pins to indicate),
is this true?
as i just recently acquired a ZC with Black pin inside the green oval line
so if there are 2 makes of this ball,
may i know which make is mine?

Actually, there are 3 but only 2 of them are different. The GREEN pin and BLACK pin are the same ball. The RED pin is a totally different animal with a much harder coverstock and dramatically less reaction than the other two.

I thought the color of the oval around the pin was the same on all the Zone Classics?? The only difference was the color of the pin.

The red pin has a red oval and the green/black pin have a green oval.

The green/black pin is an awesome ball with excellent midlane and a strong arcing backend. The Red Pin is a dry lane ball and as stated here similar in reaction to a Power Groove, etc, etc. There are two theories about the Red pin. One is that it has the Monster Slay/R coverstock. The other is that these are the activator coverstock and were meant to be green/black pin balls but they cured too long and consequently the coverstock became too hard so Big B colored the pin red and rebadged them as the Zone Classic Red Pin.

Yeah, I was aware of the 2 and their differences but the one I have seen used 3 weeks ago has the red pin but Green oval. Its the only red pin ZC I have ever seen in person. Im looking into getting a NIB ZC GP from my local pro shop, might get it dirt cheap if he cant sell it by Jan. 1st.

The RP ZC has a bum version of Activator that cured too long.  While it may be weak like the Slay/R cover, it's not PK LS.  There's not high-diff/low-diff version (which was intentional, there are two different cores for the Zone-X), they all have the same core.
