Craigslist score: NIB Cranberry Power Groove Urethane Pearl
« on: September 04, 2014, 10:00:31 PM »
Kidlost2000 eat your heart out!  ;D

I picked up this NIB ball today for $40.

I've wanted to try the PBA plastic ball layout for a long time and this ball with it's short pin and pancake core is a perfect candidate.

Right now I have a Norm Duke Signature Hammer for playing the twig, light oil, and spares. This ball should give Duke a rest.

On another note, I love the phasing on it. Can't wait to see it drilled!

On short wet/dry patterns this ball is awesome for playing the twig if you're heavy handed.  The backend I used to get out of this ball was very reminiscent of reactive 3 piece and not urethane at all.  Good find.

Good to hear.  That is my "a" game and what I see on the lanes more often than not.  I'm excited to add this to my arsenal.  It's been a long time since I threw urethane.

I feel bad for overpaying on my second one undrilled at $60....lol

Great find on a great ball. I love my sanded. I am going to sell the polish to make room for more stuff.

Lol on the $60.

Your video comparing this ball to the Strike King and Avalanche Urethane is what convinced me to get it!

Its a great ball and im glad I went with the layout I did. Thanks to some help from someone with access to blueprint software it allowed me to see the modified rico layout on a low dif core with the pin in the 3.5" to pap ball park will have as high an int diff and diff as the pba plastic ball layout. (aka Wiseman layout)

Interesting... I will need to discuss this with my driller.

Ha!  Saw them brother after he posted them and actually turned them down.  I'm glad you got them!

I'm still iffy on my Power Groove.  Went pin in palm center and CG kicked out.  OOB it went dead straight.  I hit it at 500/4000 and now I'm getting over/under, even on the dry.   Going to try 500/2000 next -- maybe with a splash of polish.

I am glad you passed. On the Power Grooves the ball is actually asymmetric because the two hook pucks aren't installed exact.

You have to have it spun to locate the correct PSA, then draw a line from it 6 3/4" through the cg to locate the correct low rg axis.(pin)  I have 4 that have been spun on a determinator and the end result is the pin, cg, psa are all inline with the original pin cg markings, but the pin averages 1.5-2" further away from the cg then marked by the actual  pin.

That may explain your reaction problem. I would consider 500/1000 on surface or 360/1000. I would also check the flare rings on the ball and where and how they are placed to see if adding a weight hole would help.

I've thrown the blue urethane groove as a spare ball for years (got tired of polyester balls cracking around the thumb etc.).   I polished the heck out of it, and the ball is indestructible!
It also serves a purpose when the lanes are scorched and I can get some movement with it right up the dry.  I'll NEVER need another spare ball for the rest of my bowling days...

Thanks guys.  I'm getting about 1-2" of flare on it right now.  I like to play it right down the gutter but if it encounters any oil on the outside I am looking at an ugly split.  I want enough surface to play that shot all day while others chase the oil left.  And I also bought it to double as a spare ball, Lane.

To date I've been bouncing back and forth between an old Faball Norm Duke Signature Hammer and a highly polished Teal Rhino Pro to fill this slot in the bag.
