Hairline crack on Radical
« on: September 08, 2006, 03:08:40 AM »
During practice today, noticed a hairline crack at the base of the thumbhole, about 1/2 inch long. In my opinion, it could have happened when the Pro shop guy hammered the thumb slug into the ball. Can't find any other reasons how this can happen...Will it be serious ? Can I just ignore it and continue using the ball ? Thanks

It can happends if you are a high tracker. I think you can leave the crack as it is for now, but if it gets bigger you may be forced to drill out it.

If your statement about your pro-shop guy hammering the thumb slug in is true then I'd be looking for a new driller, anyone who used a hammer to fit a slug in one of my bowling balls would not get a second chance!

I would send it back... Just another one of numerous problems they are having with the Radical.  Cracking is seeming to be very very common on this ball.  Look out EPX T1 and Paradigm...  The Radical is in town.  Definately take it back to the proshop guy and get it replaced.  Start with him, then move to the Distributor and if they won't replace it contact brunswick.  Ball should still be under warranty and should be replaced.  Brunswick is known for backing there products EXTREMEMLY well, I wouldn't expect any issues getting a new one.

Thanks Chad, I love it's reaction too and I won't led that crack bothers me. I will still used it but once I find that the crack gets bigger, I will go back to the Pro shop hopefully to get it changed, if not then drill and plug it, just like what Azus adviced.

Not sure what Troyboy is talking about when he says "cracking seems to be very common on this ball". Yes, we have had some cracking with some of these balls, but nothing yet that says we have an issue. This is a new coverstock, not Activator, and so far in our tests it shows similar durability to PK18, which still far exceeds most of our competitors materials. In the first month since the balls release I've had only 2 calls from anyone in my territory that had a cracking issue and both of those were due to the fact that the fingers were drilled within 1/4" from the pin.

But also, as Troyboy said, we will definitely stand behind any ball we make. Any issue you have with one of our balls should be taken up with your pro shop and the distributor will make good on it to the shop. We handle all of our warranties through the distributor for faster service to the customer.

So your pretty much telling him that if his proshop won't honor the warranty (because its a small crack ect...), then its point-less for him to ask for help directly through Bruswick ?

Boy that sure is standing behind your product !

I guess shipping from Mexico to a residential US address is expensive...lol

Last year I bought a brand new Absolute Inferno from my local "proshop", 2 months later the shop goes outta business. My AI cracked about a week after that. So I got in touch with Brunswick, exchanged a bunch of Emails and in the end they pretty much said I was screwed because of the whole "warranty through the distributor" thing.

Even after showing my receipt, pics of the ball, gave them all the proshops info ect...

If you had problems with a company that you purchased something from and they didn't take care of it after you spent money on there product, you wouldn't tell people about it ?

I'm saying... there's a right way to go about things, and then your way.

How long ago did your Absolute crack? When did you purchase it? Send me the pics if this hasn't been resolved...

I appoligize if my post was taken out of context...  I have heard several people on this forum, as well as other places localy that have had some issues with there newest Big B ball.  I personally like the radical, it gave me a different look, but for me its nothing I haven't seen in other equipment.  As I stated before.  Brunswick will always stand behind there product, and if your proshop isn't willing to replace the ball, contact his or her distributor.  Ive personally never had a ball turned away that cracked or had any other factory defect.  Brunswick is a good company that does put out a VERY good product.  I was trying to make a joke comparing this ball to the EPX-T1... Personally if I was you, I wouldn't wait to get it replaced... Take it back to your shop now and have him get in touch with  the distributor.  More then likely there was just a small air pocket in the filler/ cover, and when your driller went to pound in the slug it just cracked.

Rob, thanks for posting, it is much appriciated what you guys do.  Ive always backed Brunswick because I do know they do stand behind there product.
