I dug mine out of the closet a few months ago and I am really glad I did.  I have mine drilled like that and it has a really nice arc to it.

stupid button, anywhos, it has just keeps rolling stronger than anything else in my bag.  I usually swing it 14 out to 7-8 at the breakpoint and it never fails to hit hard.  It gets a little squirty on carry down, but what ball doesn't?  If you can find one, I would recommend it, I really don't think that PK-17 cover really ever wears out.

The cores look really close. Go to bowlingballreviews and check for yourself.

From what you are all describing, on today's oils, I'd have to say the Bruiser would give you the same look as the Sapphire Zone did back in its time.
