Quantum Helix?
« on: September 04, 2009, 06:03:42 PM »
Found one sitting on the racks at the house I work at. Just wondering if it's a good ball to have. Trying to decide if I should plug and redrill it for myself. It's in good condition.

its a cool ball to watch go down the lane.  If it's the gold/black one it will hook pretty early, if its the double helix it clears the heads a bit easier.  i had good luck with both back in the day.

Yea it's the gold and black one. I thought it would be a good ball to go to when all of my other stuff is overreacting.

From what I recall the Quantum Helix is designed to roll on the gold band off your hand and then flip onto the solid portion of the ball.  It's an interesting concept, but it seems like you're very limited on the drilling.  I'd guess that your pap has to be located dead center in the black circle right of the gold band?

The Quantum Helix was a reactive resin ball with a highly aggressive coverstock surrounding a strip of urethane. It has a medium RG, a high core torque and a flare potential of 6". The idea was to use the urethane strip to get ball down the lane where the reactive cover takes over for a strong backend reaction

They were also made for R/H & L/H bowlers.

There are two pins on the Helix and the Double Helix.  One is similar to the normal everyday pin you see on equipment and the other is an 1/8" clear pin.

The 1/2" pin needs to be place on your PAP and the smaller clear pin is the top of the core.

These balls were produced with urethane bands in 2 or 3 different widths.  The really wide bands were for those with a lower track.  If you're looking at a narrow banded Helix you'll want to track no more than about an inch off of your finger holes or thumb hole.

The Helix was pretty condition specific for me...

The Quantum Helix was effectively a concept ball from Brunswick.  An excellent idea, however never really caught on.  I doubt you would notice any competative edge by using a Helix.  Here is an old promo video Brunswick did when it came out:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1oxhKbpcpc
