Siege vs. MF and VG?
« on: September 19, 2009, 12:28:51 PM »
For those with a Siege, how do you honestly feel it compares to a Virtual Gravity, or Mega Friction on those heavy oil house shots.  There was a lot of speculation about it being Brunswick's version of the VG, and I was curious if it held up to that, fell short, over did it.  Are they fairly similar, etc etc.  Was offered a trade for one, and have been considering it, but wanted to get some input on how you guys felt it stacked up to the above listed balls.
As of now, first ball out is my MF, and then by about the end of the 2nd game, I move to my VG for a little extra length, and bit more backend snap.
Thanks,
Kenny

After thought:  How does the Siege compare to the new C2.5 ball that recently came out.

Comparing a Siege to the C-System 2.5 would be like comparing the Virtual Gravity to the Virtual Energy...

Adrenaline,
Rather then saying how tiresome these posts are, I will try to give you some feedback.  I have found that the Siege is not as early as the MF, but it seems more continuous to me.  It has been very comparable to the VG in length and ability to store energy.  The recovery is great, and the continuation is a remarkable change from the previous Brunswick oilers.  In the past, the oilers from Brunswick had a point of diminishing returns once I got inside of 18 at the arrows.  This is not the case with the Siege.  As far as compared to the CS 2.5, I have not had a chance to throw one yet.  I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Dennis Rhodes

Obviously I can't answer the first question ( ), but I can take a stab at the second one.

IME the Siege and C-(System) 2.5 are completely different animals.

I use the Siege on conditions with higher volumes, and longer patterns that are reasonably fresh.  I can stay with the Siege until the pattern starts to open up, at which point I'll see too quick of a burn with this ball.

The C-(System) doesn't really come into its own for me until there is a defined dry area, either to the outside or down lane, but when this dry area forms, I can stay with the C-(System) even as the condition continues to deteriorate.

So my equipment progression would start with the Siege, and then go to the Wild Thing, and then to the C-(System).

Hope this helps.

Ok, before I answer this question... I would like to say that before I tried  the siege I hated Brunswick. Why.. Well after 3 Wild Rides, a Maxxx Zone, and a TFD, I could not find one that I shot over 200 with. The maxxx zone burned up too fast for me, the wild ride was nothing like advertised in my hands, and the tfd was just like... ok. I made the plunge to grab a siege, and ohh my goodness. I have thrown all the big hookers (haha),and of the ones you mentioned there are some differences. I loved the mega friction and the VG was not too shabby either, the differences compared to the siege are listed below:

Compared to Mega Friction: More angular, less up front, more on the backend. Continuation through the rack is close between the two, but I can use my siege into the second game, where as the mf was put away by the 5th frame usually.

Compared to the VG: Very close to the same reaction in my hands. Both get good length, and then come out of nowhere on the back end. With that aside, my Vg's (I had a few of them) suffered reaction loss fairly quickly. I was resurfacing the vg every 30 games almost, and it never got back to the way it was out of the box. I clean my equipment after every shot, and before going in the bag, as well as using a ball spinner periodically to keep the surface up. If you bowl like I do (monday, wednesday, friday, and sunday), then that is like a resurface every other week. The siege has mainted its reaction very well, and to me handled carry down a bit better then the VG. Both are good balls, so it comes down to what you believe in. Put it like this, I just picked up a Wild Thing to give it a try because of the Siege!

Hmm..Lets see what I have in this bag...some virtual gravity, some hot sauce, a liberator, and a saw.. how can I loose....

In my experience, the Siege burns up really fast too.  I had to take it up to 4000 just to use it on fresh oil.  Pretty typical Brunswick heavy oil cover.

Yep, most of the heavy oilers now have to have surface prep as they are just too strong for everyday conditions.
