Success with the Slingshot
« on: March 29, 2010, 05:42:49 PM »
Tonight in league I shot 216, 258, and 300 for a 774! And I did it all with Brunswick's newest release the red and silver Slingshot! Because of how much I have liked my Power Grooves I couldn't wait to get my hands on a Slingshot. Well I finally drilled one up this past weekend, I decided to use one of my favorite layouts which is none other than the Rico lay out and all I can say is that I am in love with this ball. It's super clean through the fronts and has a stronger move on the back than I had anticipated but it's much more predictable than my Power Groove with the same layout. And it looks GREAT going down the lane. All in all I couldn't be happier with the ball.

The Freeze is definitely a stronger ball than the Slingshot.  No way the PowerKoil 17 is as strong as the cover that was on the Momentum and it was a high end ball a couple years ago.  But, in fairness to the poster, CONGRATS on the monster set and honor score.  Keep us updated in the weeks to come and are you thinking of drilling another Slingshot with a different layout?

Did you keep it box finish or hit it with something?

Mr. Pro Baer,

For months on end all we read is your consistant FIGJAMMING of your own scores.  300 this, 800 that.  Nice bowling and all but geesh. And I know that being a staff member you must do this.  But seriously, this is a thread for the Slingshot and you have to interject with your own FIGJAM about your latest 800 with a completely different ball?  If there was a FIGJAM Annonymous, I think would would benefit from it.  You make Rev_O and Necromancer very proud.

Storke, Sorry you feel this way. I am in no way trying to toot my own horn(figjam). I enjoy reading sbout good things. This site focuses so much on the negative. What's wrong with the positive things? I am not rquired to do this but choose to to let people know that Brunswick balls are as good if not better than the others. I wasn't trying to hijack Jordans topic, I simply added a side note.
I do thank you for the criticism though.

Thanks guys! Adam great shooting! And no worries I know you're not hi jacking the thread. I love to hear about people doing great on the lanes regardless of what ball they're throwing. And the slingshot was out of box finish and yes I'm planning on drilling a black and silver one as well. It just looks too good to pass up! Lol I was thinking about drilling it with a 50x4.5x40. I will post on how it works out.

mine is laid out 65x4 5/8x60.  I hit it with a 500 abralon then a 1000, smoothed it out down lane and made it much cleaner than out of the box.  I saw it wiggle a lot when it was shiny.  Try one with some surface.  You know with the low diff. it's not going to peel off the dry, but then your also not going to over shoot the breakpoint.  Great bowling again.

Thanks for the advice. I just drilled the black silver 50x5x40. I was planning on hitting it with a 2000 micro pad by hand to get the shine off. I'm planning on throwing both tonight in my second shift scratch league. I will post results. Again thanks everybody.

Quick question.  I was seriously thinking of picking up a urethane ball for certain shots next season.  Would the Slingshot give me the same type of reaction?  Am looking for smooth, smooth, smooth.  Something to be able to play up the boards and have it walk into pocket like a urethane ball when everything else is jumping and hooking way too hard.

Bear in mind that the Sling has PowerKoil 17, which is a reactive resin cover.  If they are fried, the ball is still hooking as soon as it sees friction.  If you are on lighter and/or shorter patters, the ball is money.  If you have any rev rate whatsoever and the heads are fried, the cover is still going to want to read that burn.  If you want "smooth" on burnt/fried conditions, urethane still may be the better way to go.
