Total/Red Zone box finish
« on: July 16, 2007, 09:22:16 AM »
I have now used both of these, but not on a real heavy oil patter.  Will the Total be ok on a heavy pattern, or will I need a Fury or Scorchin' Inferno?  If not, What can go below the Red Zone.

Thanks for all responces,

Zach

The Total will be fine on a heavy oil pattern. You may need to adjust the surface slighty once you get to practice on it.

The Red Zone is better for a medium to oily pattern.

The Total is a good ball for oil. But how do you have it drilled? I know two people that each have a Total. Both are drilled different, one has it strong, while the other has it drilled weaker. The first uses it on heavy oil and the other uses it on medium THS.

So to me it would all depend on how you have it drilled.

Either of them can tolerate heavy oil, its a matter of drilling and surface prep.  The Total oob is 220 and rough buff, the red, 400 and high gloss polish.  Neither of these finishes will handle true heavy.  400 to 1000 grit with no compound or polish is probably what you'd need for them to handle heavy.

I personally figure that the Red Zone would be the better heavy oil ball.  Being a reactive solid, it should be less squirty.  If you want to check into something that is for heavy oob, the blast zone or the fury seem to be the best options in the current product line.  You may also think about the mammoth, or the retired (or soon to be) strike zone, scorchin inferno, or Ultimate Inferno
