Am i the only 1 who double boxes anymore?
« on: October 03, 2006, 08:25:53 AM »
i have done 5+ trades in the past month or so and havent gotten a double boxed ball yet.  (They were not beat up by ups/fedex).  Am i going to far out of my way with the hassle of double boxing or what?  Is it just a waste of time anymore?

I've seen far too many single boxes beaten, literally, to the point where the ball is about to fall out of the shredded cardboard.

I'm afraid that no matter what you say, my eyes tell me otherwise. You better double box or else the "Gorillas" will try to beat that box to death. The standard both FEDEX and UPS will hold you to is to drop ANY and EVERY package 6' onto concrete, SEVERAL TIMES.

Better safe than sorry.

Still think it's a cheap and lazy person who doesn't double box. I never said,"ignorant".

BTW, to add to my previous thread about my use of the "L/LM" single boxes and the inside styrofoan packing ... I use shipping tape to completely seal all the edges, as well as "wrap and flap" each face of the box; believe me, that ball is secure and protected.
Also, no negative feedback via PM or in my Seller feedback has ever been posted as a result of my method.
That being said, I DO double-box and bubble-wrap and securely "wrap and flap" when I don't have an "L/LM" box ... but since I'm so brand-loyal, I never run out as of late.

If I've only got 1 box, the ball is then wrapped in bubble wrap and placed into the box.  If I can, I prefer to wrap the ball in the wrap and double box.  And I tape the living hell out of it for good measure!

Most of what I've gotten is at least double boxed though....at least from here.

Sorry, charlest, but I have to disagree.  You can call it lazy or cheap, but I've shipped probably over 40 balls and I have never double boxed.  I always use UPS and the thick brown paper or bubble wrap for padding with plenty of tape.  No problems on ebay and none here (excellent feedback for both).  They're bowling balls for crying out loud, not $1500 China vases.  Whatever the shipper is doing to damage one box, they sure are going to damage 2 (i.e dropping it 6' onto concrete).  I've literally had hundreds of balls shipped to me over the years and the ones that have had the most damage were double-boxed.  There has been no correlation between damage and amount of boxes.

If I were guaranteed the extra expenditure and time to double box assured a safe delivery, I would.  If this prevents others from buying from me on here, then so be it.
