Am i the only 1 who double boxes anymore?
« on: October 03, 2006, 08:25:53 AM »
i have done 5+ trades in the past month or so and havent gotten a double boxed ball yet.  (They were not beat up by ups/fedex).  Am i going to far out of my way with the hassle of double boxing or what?  Is it just a waste of time anymore?

If I can, I do.

If I cannot, I do my best to inform the buyer that it will be shipped with a single box but will be packed with foam or packing peanuts to protect the ball from damage during shipping.

I bowl with a UPS driver.
I asked him about double boxing.
He said it just added weight.

This was in reference to some antique China I'm shipping.

He said he would stand on any box that seemed more stable, so he could reach the top shelf in the truck.

He told me he would never use USPS . . .I told him thanks, now I KNOW I will ship it USPS PRIORITY MAIL, double boxed.

Getting back to your question, I always double box, anything that can be damaged in transit.

Double boxing is the only way to ship properly, not to do so is either lazy or ignorant.

I do too ... unless they are the "L/LM" balls and boxes; I've shipped many out with those and the styrofoan packing inside gets them there without issue.
NOTE ... it is a good idea to put the bottles of polish and cleaner in a zip lock ... just in case.

I always double box with added padding.  There's no reason not to really.  One can usually go to their pro shop and get free boxes, even the outside shipping ones.

Hmmm... I recently sent a ball to you, so I'm sure that falls into one of your complaints. Sorry. I almost always provide double-boxing and ample padding, as almost everyone I've traded with will attest to.

In this case, I unfortunately did not have the additional outside box. However, that is not an excuse. I should have gotten one to ensure the safe delivery of your ball, as that is what should be expected.

My apologies and I hope the ball arrived in good order. Let me know...

They're 40 cents each of a lot of 25. 25 x $.40 = $10 plus shipping.

Sounds dirt cheap to me.

I have NEVER shipped one bowlingball unless it was double boxed.
ALmost everyone I have received from regular internet dealers like Buddies, BlockBuster and AllStarBowling are all double boxed.

I got one single box delivered by FEDEX and it was beaten to Sh*T; like someone had a grudge against that poor box. It is "bad form" and cheap and lazy not to ship with an outside 2nd box.

I just shipped a used 15 lb ball via USPS AIRMAIL Parcel Post to England to a ballreviews member. I am anxious as to its delivered condition. I am positive the ball will arrive safely.

I double box plus I pack newspapers around the ball so it can't even think about rolling around in the box.

I have shipped well over 30 balls and I will not ship it unless it is double boxed. I ran out of boxs once and paid $7 for 2 boxes from the ups store. With fedex you need to put it in a steel vault to get there safe.

I've performed countless transactions on this site and have probably shipped 2/3 of them with a double box.  The rest have NEVER had an issue because I have access to packing pillows, rugged plastic bags, or foam.  I've even offered buyers/traders the option of allowing me a day to grab a box from a local pro shop.  To say that shipping a ball with only only box is "lazy or ignorant" is a little over the top.  What do you think happens when these balls hit those 3 pound six ounce pins and get sent back to us via ball returns?  It's not exactly a daintyprocess.  I always check to make certain there's no problem after a ball arrives to eliminate the possibility of a concern.  If I were at fault, I'd remedy the problem, immediately.

I stuff the heck out of mine, use 2 boxes with the outside box  being large enough to house 2 maybe 3 balls.

I had 1 ball get damaged that was double boxed but the outside box was just bigger then the inside one and didn't have any stuffing so now I way over box..

Thanks for the lashing Charlest. Well deserved, I guess.

I thought I would be honest in an open forum and offer an apology in case the package I shipped had been an offending part of his complaint. I didn't have to do it, but thought it would be the best (and right) thing to do.

I'm glad it was well recieved by the person it was intended for...
