Cheapbowlingballs.com - Updated - Now Recommended
« on: March 16, 2006, 12:29:16 AM »
Just tried to do a purchase with cheapbowlingballs but they refuse to accept my Paypal because I did not select a shipping address on the website (my P O Box was the only one to select there).  I understand where they are coming from but I have over 50+ purchases made on this site using Paypal and this is the first problem I have encountered this way.  Wanted to have the balls shipped to my work address since it was a joint purchase with a co-worker.

I cant recommend them at this point in time.

Updated:

Went back to Paypal site and added my work address as the billing address for my credit card and had no problems putting my order through.  I still dont understand how my work address can be 'verified' when no one checked it out (order went through the same day the address change was made) and it is not my billing address.  This is not directed at cheapbowlingballs.com but rather at Paypal as I consider this issue to be a security fault.

Cheapbowlingballs originally sent out the wrong balls but did re-ship the correct order and paid for shipping the wrong balls back to them.  I will now recommend them for anyone considering buying from them.  Good service and communications with the company.

I messaged them and asked if they would do a credit card purchase.  Their reply was only if the cc billing address was the same as the shipping address.

I use my POB for all my official mail - that way it is safe when I am TDY for the Army since I live alone.  Also, UPS has a bad habit of just leaving packages outside the door of apartments where anyone passing by can help themselves so that is why I frequently use my work address (a military base) for shipping.  Guess I wont be doing any business with this company.

Again, I cant recommend this company.

The thing is your paypal address is on the paypal account, when you give a different address its possible or at least more possible that you arn't using your account.  However I think you can add addresses onto paypal which is all I would of done.

Yea that's what I did, I have most of my stuff shipped to work it's just easier that way.  It only takes like 2 mins if that to add another address to paypal and less to remove it once completed.

Personally, like stated above if run a transaction like your describing I would be suspicious of the transaction as well.

All my cc have my POB as the billing address.  In over 20 years I have never had a purchase denied because I have a POB as a billing address.  All the proshops and individuals in my Profile never questioned it.  When you show up to buy from a store and use a cc, is it a big deal to them what your billing address is since it is not their (shipping) address?  Buy.com, Target.com, Newegg.com, Buddiesproshop, many more have no problem with a shipping address different from the billing address, only this web company.

On the first attempt, using Paypal, I sent them my work address through a PM on this site and told them on the phone that my Paypal account has my POB listed so I did not send them that one.  On the second attempt, I asked them if they would use my cc for the purchase instead of Paypal.  They would not accept the cc because my billing address is the POB and UPS or FedEx will not ship to a POB, so I again gave them my work address but they want my billing address and shipping address to be the same.  There is no way I can make that happen with any of my cc's.  I've used that POB for the last 25 years and have ordered from many other online or catalog businesses with no problems.

On my refund from cheapbowlingballs, they said:

quote:
Message From Seller:
Buyer attempting to get products shipped to an unconfired address. We do not ship to unconfirmed adresses. This is Paypals policies.

This is from Paypal's website:

quote:
What is a Confirmed Address?
A buyer's Confirmed Address is checked against the credit card billing address maintained by his or her credit card company.

How is address confirmation useful?
Address confirmation is useful because it provides a way for a seller to verify a buyer's identity. Shipment to a confirmed address, however, is not a requirement for coverage under the Seller Protection Policy since not all PayPal users are able to confirm their addresses. If a transaction is eligible for coverage under the Seller Protection Policy, a seller must ship to the address found on the Transaction Details page (regardless of whether that address is confirmed or not). For transactions that are ineligible for coverage under the Seller Protection Policy, we recommend that a seller ships to a buyer's Confirmed Address.

What is an Unconfirmed Address?
An Unconfirmed Address is any address which is not associated with a credit card or which has not been verified by PayPal. Most non-U.S. addresses cannot be confirmed at this time because many international credit card platforms do not support methods to do so.

My confirmed address would be my POB address since it is my cc billing address.

I've used at least 5 different addresses for shipping in the last 6 years and never been questioned or denied. If was I'd take my green money and spend it around the corner with some other outfit.

But your bussinuss address in not a confirmed address which he may require, like allot of other companies.  Please reread this part of your qoute.

OK, I have never dealt wit CBB.com so I have no experience with them and want to make surethat is clear.  But to me the deal seems shady with all the address changes so I would be leery about dealing with you as well.  One of my employee's got burnt last year buy taking a credit card over the phone so you may guess I make damn sure I take ever step to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Not that I agree or disagree with anything going on here...however, I do know of a situation involving a member here if I remember correctly where they shipped a ball to an unconfirmed address as the person requested. The receiver claimed they did not receive the product, and filed a claim with Paypal. Paypal asked the shipper for his records, and he showed them the tracking number where it was delivered, the whole 9 yards...slam dunk, right? WRONG, Paypal sided with the RECEIVER as the shipper did NOT ship to a confirmed address, and thus debited the shippers account for the transaction dollar amount. The receiver did not pay and thus no longer can use Paypal.

The problem as I read it is that a POB is involved, but that is where he gets his credit card statements.  We all know that UPS/FedEx/DHL cannot deliver to a POB, but MOST companies will allow you to provide a separate address, especially where there is the ability to confirm it over the phone.

I have run into this on occasion.  All of my billings go to the POB.  Most companies, save for TicketMaster, would agree to the use of the office address for delivery.  Ultimately even TM agreed to overnight the tickets to my office only after their mailing never arrived and they had no tracking of the envelope.  But it took calling their corporate offices to get it done...their line-level CSR's said it "absolutely could not be done."

I can understand a company not sending out to a second address where there has been no communication other than the web-order.  But in this case, it sounds as though sufficient information was provided.  Apparently the cheap in the name comes from being willing to piss off a potential customer and lose the sale rather than pick up the phone and call to verify.

Oh, and as an aside, the addition of other addresses to PayPal as "confirmed" or whatever name they use was a real PITA the last time I had to do it.  They wanted a utility bill and other proof...guess where my utility bills are sent? You got it- to my POB.  If my POB is good enough for all creditors, utilities, drivers license and the IRS, it ought to be good enough for PayPal.  I finally had to send them a letter on office letterhead that connected the series of dots to link my residence to the POB for the purposes of "confirming" the address.

ETA...the other subtle irony...care to guess what the address is that appears on my PayPal Buyers Credit account?

I don't know if you are refering to my experience, but that happened to me, but it wasn't a bowling ball. I can't use Paypal anymore because of it even though I proved I sent it and that he signed for it. Still ticks me off to this day.
