Drilled this one up a little different, usally I drill up all my stuff pin under ring, kick the cg out to the right ( 45%) put a weight hole in it and go. But for this one I decided to something a little different.

Ball started out 15 lbs 3oz  3 in pin with about 2 1/2 tp weight;

Drilled this one 4 x 4, pap is 4 7/8 over 3/8 up, which ended up with pin right next to ring finger, cg is a little right of center of grip.

Bowled on a fresh house shot, lanes 1 and 2. First game out of the box 279, than went 204 212=695.

In the house where we bowl lane 1 breaks down really quick, and that's after they have ran it twice with the lane machine. Standing left of twenty setting the ball down around 12-13 never let the ball get out past 7. Ball gets through the heads rally easy, this ball is not what you would call a skid flip reaction, but, when it stands up, it really wants to go left.
Problem I encountered was when the lanes broke down, this ball started making it's move earlier and before I knew it I was standing on 7 of the left side and the ball wasn't making it through the heads so easily, so I had to switch balls went to my Jazz, thats how much these lanes broke down.

If your looking for a ball for Med to Heavy oil I know you will be happy with this one

I will do another review after I get more games on the ball

I don't review equipment much but I have to talk about the new Columbia 300 Momentum. I've been using Columbia since signing a regional contract in July. The Rival was the best out of the first 4 balls because of it's versatility and excellent mid lane read ability (4 balls being Wrath HF, Rival, Resurgance, and Jazz).

On December 4th the Momentum was released. I don't remember the specifics of top weight (I do not drill my own equipment). The pin is 5 1/4" from my PAP. I believe the CG was 3 or 4" from the pin and is pretty much in the center of my palm. No weight hole.

Most of my first samples of new Columbia equipment are drilled this way, some have the CG kicked out a bit more than my Momentum. I used the ball first time out during the NJ State Masters. This was a pretty flat pattern, I don't know the length but it was probably around 40 feet fairly heavy volume, pretty tough. To compare to a tour pattern I would say it was similar to the Scorpion. At first the Momentum was getting too much length so I put it in the bag for my 2 Resurgances, I switched between them with little success. I struggled mightily the first 2 games then switched to the Wrath HF and went fairly straight up 7 to stay out of trouble. Once the middle opened up a bit I moved in to 17 with the Momentum and shot over 700 my last 3 games. The ball was incredible, It gave me good length with incredible recovery in the backend. I was sending pins all over the place.

I tried it out again this evening on my local house pattern and the reaction on Saturday in the tournament was no fluke. This ball is a winner, espescially on the normal house pattern or post transition on pba patterns. I would say it may be a bit erratic on the fresh but once the lanes open up a bit it is without a doubt my new ball of choice.

Try it out!

Momentum (4000+shine) 5 1/2 X 5 Pin above bridge no x-hole

I was hoping for a ball that was cleaner up front and more backend than my rival.  My rival (4000 grit) is drilled slightly stronger, 4 1/2 X 5 pin above my ring finger, no x-hole, and the momentum was just that.  This is not a flip ball, and its about 6-8 boards weaker than my rival up front and 2-3 stronger at the breakpoint.  It gets to the spot very clean and just rolls over and arcs at the breakpoint.  Being a pearl, and having a round weightblock, i expected this and I'm very excited about throwing this ball on tougher conditions when a smoother backend is required.

*On edit*

After liking my first momentum so much, I immediately decided to drill up the second one laying around.  For this ball, I went pin below my middle finger giving it a 6 X 4 layout and broke the cover to 4000 grit.  I was hoping for a ball that was clean through the front with the weaker pin, picked up the middle and roll on the back.  I also wanted it to be earlier than my first momentum but also weaker than my rival.  I broke the cover so it wasn't too angular and this ball is exactly like I hoped, maybe a little bit stronger than i wanted, but still great.  It hooks about 3 boards more than my pin up momentum up front but is much less in the back, probably because of the duller finish. It fits perfectly between my rival and my other momentum.  Its very smooth and I can see me throwing this ball alot on fresh medium conditions, or when a straighter ball path is more useful.  Rev Rate/axis/arsenal in profile.  Good job C300!

My Momentum was drilled with the pin 5" under the ring and the cg located on the horizontal grip line with a 3" starting pin. I find the ball has the best breakpoint among the current Columbia line and hits with plenty of power. Nice thing about the drill on this ball is the recovery area I have when I miss right. Only ball I have where bowlers have ask what type of ball I just crushed a rack with.

I drilled up one of these, a special thanks to Joe Farley for the Ball. I opted to put the pin 4¼ from PAP, and 75 degrees, with small extra hole ½ past my Axis. The ball really pushes nicely through the heads, and the response off friction is Moderate. This ball has helped me on our extreme wet-dry house shot where anything right of 7 Jumps off the spot. I was able to play 11/12 or so out to 5 and get a very hard arc off the spot with good pin carry. I have had the ball for a month but just started using it recently. I feel that anyone with a medium to softer ball speed will enjoy this ball, as it is very rolly and controllable. A very good compliment to the Resurgence.

This ball is insane!

For a polished ball....I think this one take the cake for backend hook. Mine is drilled pin right of ring finger, stacked. I play down the 3&4th arrow and it gets good length, but once the ball hits any dry...WATCHOUT. Hard turn left. The Momentum is also a very powerful ball. Even when I missed the pocket right, would result is max. 2-3 pins standing.

I agree with others that the Momentum is not a ball for slower ball speed players.  If you are looking for effortless backend and truck-like hitting power, Momentum is your ticket.

SPECS:
-PAP:5 3/16 X 1/2
-SPEED: 15 MPH
-REVS: 300-350
-med axis tlt, high axis rotation, 15lbs

Just recieved the momentum on thurs and had it drilled up in the afternnon. Never used any columbia equipment and wasn't sure to know what to expect. Used the basic label  control drilling, which placed the pin about 4 to 4 1/4 away from PAP ( next to ring finger) CG in the palm, no weight hole.

The lanes had  very little to no oil so a true test of the ball is under way but from the shots that i did throw the ball has excellent midlane read and an arcing continuos backend. Cannot wait to see the reaction during league nite.

I have never owned a Columbia reactive so this ball is a first for me. I sampled the Momentum this past Sunday at an Ebonite Demo Day and knew that I needed to drill one. The ones I used at the demo picked up hard in the mid lane and had a surprisingly strong backend reaction. The one that I drilled for myself does about the same thing. It definitely picks up sooner than my Storm stuff that I have but still produces the hard backend that I am used to. The arlier start definitely gives me a look that I have been looking for for a long time. I have needed a reaction that is sooner but still pops for a long time and I have found it. I am currently at an East Region tournament in Rockaway, NJ on Cheetah and that reaction gave me an awesome and smooth look that has given me room both ways from the gutter. So basically, at least for the first 10 games or so, I have become a Columbia fan and will definitely give them another look down the road.

I lay-ed this one out stacked 4.5" and it is one of my favorite balls, it has the push of no other ball on the market with the return that matches no other. When I have to jump inside and have to trust one ball to make that corner and come back for me this is the one I grab. I drilled up 2 more just like the first just to make sure I had plenty of them and get the same results with each one. Too much back-end hook for most strokers but the tweener will eat pins up with this one.

BALL SPECS

Pin Length - 3.5"
Starting Top Weight - 3 oz.
Ball Weight - 15 lb. 1 oz.

DRILL PATTERN

Pin to PAP - 4"
CG to PAP - 3"
X Hole (if needed) - On PAP
MB Location - N/A

BOWLER STYLE

Rev Rate - 375
Ball Speed - 18.0 - 18.5 mph
PAP/Track - 4.25" (over) x .25" (up)

SURFACE PREPARATION

Grit - 4000 Abralon
Type (Matte, Polish, Sanded) - Wet Sand (No polish)

LANE CONDITION

Chameleon- Highly recommended. Great read on this pattern.
Scorpion- Not recommended. Ball misses the breakpoint too often.
THS (38 ft. medium blend)- Highly recommended. Dominates this THS.
THS (42 ft. heavy blend)- Not recommended. Ball is squirty on this condition.

BALL REACTION (1-10)

Length - 6
Back End - 7
Overall Hook - 7
Midlane Read - Strong
Breakpoint Shape - Hard strong flip

COMMENTS

Carry - Good, struggles on carrydown and heavier blend house shots.

Likes - Very predictable, strong hard continuous roll into the pocket. Great, great ball for a medium blend house shot and the Chameleon. This ball picks up the midlane very nicely without losing too much energy into the pocket. The surface adjusts very easily on this ball, and by taking it to 4000 abralon and knocking off the polish, it allows this ball to play a wider variety of conditions.

Dislikes - This ball tends to struggle with carry when the lane oil begins to carry down. When you try and move out to compensate, it can pick up the midlane a little early, causing it to jump. The best thing to do if you want to stay with this ball when carry down occurs is to slow the speed down, and retain your entry angle into the pocket. This does help out the carry, but overall when the lanes push, put this ball back in the bag. Also, not recommended for use on heavier blend THS and longer PBA patterns unless you take the surface down to below 2000 abralon.

Pin to CG Distance 3-4"
Topweight around 3 oz

Layout:  Label with pin about an inch to the right of and slightly above the fingers, CG about an inch below the ring finger, which puts the "pseudo MB" near the ball track:

Surface: 4000 abralon w/ Magic Shine Polish

Ball Reaction:

Late Midlane Read and strong backend reaction

Comments:

It took me a while to understand what this ball was about, but in the end it was well worth the effort.  I bought this as a complement to the Rival, basically when the Rival starts reading the front too much.  The Momentum with this drill and surface fits the bill perfectly.  This ball gets through the front cleaner than the Rival, reads the lane about 3-4 feet later and is much more aggressive off of the dry.  On longer patterns or patterns with more oil up front, I was also able to square up and use more end over end roll as long as there was too much carrydown.  I tried it at 2000 and 1000 abralon w/ polish,  but that made it roll too much like my Rival and it wanted to read a little too early.

I've used this ball successfully on the Cheetah, Viper, Chameleon, Scorpion and Shark.  This ball also works exceptionally well on THS patterns.  This ball does has a pretty strong, polished cover, so too little oil up front or too much oil downlane is trouble for this ball.  This ball also is very responsive to hand position and speed adjustments, I've used this ball from just inside 1st arrow to inside 4th arrow with no loss in carry.  I understand know why Chris Barnes and Big Wes used this ball alot towards the end of last season.

This was exactly what I was looking for, a great ball for everything but floods and deserts that's very receptive to physical game adjustments.  This ball is a winner in every sense of the word and is one that everyone should have in thier bag IMHO.

One of the staff members that lives in my town said that i should get the ball because the way i throw it. So I got the ball Thursday on the 1/15/09 and said that I should get the ball set up as a controllable hook. The only thing i know is that the pin is a little to the right of the ring finger. I practice that night with 4 games just pushing the limits on it seeing how much I can crack it and playing straight up with it. So i got a good feel for it after the games and decided to bowl with it in the city tournament at two different houses in in two different days. On the first day my series was 773 for team event with a high game 277. Then on the second day my sets were 714 and 696 with 267 the same high game for each set. I would recommend "especially for big crackers like me" this ball a lot because it is true about the best house ball and it reads the lanes easy. I'm going to try other balls for COLUMBIA because the Momentum hit hard, was flush, and when it hit light it threw pins.

This one surprised me. I expected long and strong. I got a lot of control. It smoothed out  THS with almost no over under. The ball is consistent. Excellent carry. A favorite ball for over a year. Sadly it died.
