Black Shadow
« on: March 30, 2010, 08:04:08 AM »
does any one out there know anything about the Columbia Shadow? i just aquired one, and i can't figure out if it is urethane or reactive. it is a black polished ball with green lettering with the new style shadow logo. i would guess urethane, just because the shadow logo is not followed by an "R" like the other shadow reactives. was this a good ball in its time? can't find this ball on columbia's website.

Is the only difference, the color of the lettering?

the type of lettering and the finish. this is polished and not matte.

I am not 100 sure without seeing a picture of the ball, but they made a Reactive Black Shadow that was just a pancake weight block.

Green lettering sounds like the reactive version

pancake weight block....My first reactive ball, and my first 200s were with that ball.  Brings back some memories

I recall the Shadow, a dull black urethane.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were a Shadow/R with different colored lettering.

If there's no "/R" in the name, it's probably urethane even though it's polished. Remember there was nothing to prevent someone from polishing it before drilling it and then returning it to the box. Done that a few times myself.

upon further inspection, i do believe that this has been polished up. so it probably is the black shadow urethane with new style lettering and color. so my next question would be: was the shadow a good urethane ball? i know very little about columbia bowling balls.

Charlest is correct.  The Reactives were Shadow/R labeled.  You have a 3 piece Urethane with a U-Dot cover.  Still good for toast or as a spare ball.
