thanx

No more like 12 at the arrow and 5 at the break point.  He is using the power swing on the shark pattern and the same line.

Chris is a very smart player and am not surprised at all to see him using the old U2 on those conditions.. He made the show this week so kudos to him..

I know late last summer when Barnes was practicing up in Denton, he had just had an old U2 plugged and redrilled and was using it that day.. I ask him about it then and he said that was the only one he had..

I bet this was the same ball.. I would imagine finding that ball NIB would in fact be a rare find!!

Kind of crazy that they still had some blank U2s sitting around

I thought Plugged balls were not allowed on the PBA tour?

Using a plugged ball is fine. Here is the rule directly from my PBA rule book:

11.8 Plugged Equipment. Plugging material may be used in accordance with
current USBC specifications. No foreign matter may be placed within the plug area, and all equipment shall otherwise comply will PBA regulations

Ah well it must have been updated, then again not hailing from the US or bowling on the PBA tour it was not something I would have come across.

So how rigorou are the PBA in checking equipment, especially plugged balls? I have a couple of books that mention about Plugged balls being plugged with all manner of substances, having dense materials underneath a layer of legitimate plugging material and the old "Soakers" used "Back in the day".

If they check such things a lot its a good job I will probably never bowl a tour event,as having got most of my equipment pre owned I would never get out of the bowl!

I am sure everyone out there knows if they use a ball thats illegal, it could jeopordize their career and livelehood..

I don't see that being a problem with the exempt tour.. Regionals "might" be a different story.. But then again, I would hope integrity would keep all of the PBA members honest..

At one time I had heard that the plug had to be clear. I don't know if that is true or not.
