Has anyone polished a Wicked B/R/T?
« on: October 18, 2003, 02:19:34 AM »
Has anyone done this, from a light to a hevay polish, to help prevent the early roll that this ball does on anything less than medium oil?

If so, what were your results and on what oil pattern did you use it?

Thanx.

My question is why?

My answer is they are really very different balls. Th ecores make them so. The original is skid/snap for medium oil, the B/R/T is early roll for medium-heavy oil. This was the reason for my question.

If you need the ball to go longer why didn't you get the original Wicked?  It is designed to go longer and hook harder on drier back ends.  The b/r/t is supposed to have a midlane arc to it and snap on the back if it is snapping too soon then you might try polishing it but it is probably the flip block releasing energy too quick throw it harder.

Eaxctly my point. I am unsure as to what would happen; tired of playing with drillings as this can get quite expensive. I suspect the B/R/T needs to be kept dull to operate within its design parameters. It may not take well to polishing.

quote:
But if it is the over all hook of the ball in the midlane that is bothering you no amount of polish will stop it from hooking so hard just make it flip later.  Sometimes it is just too much ball for the conditions so if you are on burnt lane conditions flatten out your release, loft it, and throw the ball out further.  You are right you need to keep your revs up but get it further down the lane but the polish will hurt the balls reaction on the back end.

Precisely; thus, my question to the community. Thanks anyway.

Actually, I strongly suspect an Icon2 would be the equivalent of a polished Wicked B/R/T.

I've never seen anyone try to polish a Wicked b/r/t, but I'd say if you're playing on anything less than medium oil conditions, that would be the way to go, since the wicked hooks way too much on light oil. However, that's not what the ball was made for, though you could get it to work with a little polishing. I'd say go with a light polish, and then try it. If it still rolls too early, then give it more, but don't do too much at a time.

Au contraire I think!  I think a dulled Wicked Brt would equal an Icon 2.

Same core after all.  Just the Icon 2 has more bite built in.

That may be true, but the Wicked BRT bites the lane so much earlier. I had an Icon2 and that sucker would skid forever with the high gloss finish it has. I am still very leary of foolign around with Columbia particle coverstocks when I had it; and, so, I chose to sell it rather than tweak it. FOr such a supposedly strong cover, it acted far too much like plain polished resin for me. True it hit very hard when it got to the pocket, but getting it there was always a challenge. It wound up being a condition specific ball for me. For its price, that was not a good thing, to my mind.
