Is the Spirit II being discontinued already?
« on: December 11, 2003, 03:42:47 PM »
I just saw it on Buddies Pro Shop's discontinued list. Does anyone know?

I think it is. That sure didn't last long. What, September intro, early December closeout?

If a person wants a pearlized version of the original Spirit, about the closest you could come would be the Razzle.

The original Spirit was supposed to be a pearl. about 99% sure of that; at least mine is. Check with Phillip Marlowe; he had/has 3 of them.

My Spirit was a solid.  They came in 3 flavors depending on the date of manufacture.

The Spirit II is actually a great ball for dryer sport patterns.  Perhaps its sales more reflect bowling on more open house conditions where other balls may shine. Personally I have a field day with mine when playing say pattern E. Bumping the gutter with a label Spirit II plays rather well, atleast here in the Southern Region. Also, how can you really go wrong with basically a Cuda/c minus the ceramic nugget.....neither myself or other Columbia staff members think you can. :0

People don't appreciate good controllable lower hooking balls.  All the hacks want hook monsters or something they can fling to the right and watch it bounce off of their league house shot.  This is why this ball is going so soon.  Not to mention it came out over a year and a half after the original spirit.

This "hack" appreciates good dry lane equipment. In my dry lane arsenal:

Faball Pearl Nail reactive.
Faball Ice Blue Razor.
Faball Black Hammer.
Original Spirit with the Black Coverstock.
Monster Slay/R
Monster Red/Black.
C300 Gold Dot urethane.

I threw the Spirit II with two different layouts. Neither one lit my fire.
They're both gone (and by the way they were my last Columbia purchases). Too many surprises with balls that didn't do what they were supposed to, and too many covers cracked.

Our closeout list does not mean the ball has been discontinued, it rather means that one of our distributors is looking to get rid of the rest of their inventory on a ball.

Thanks, Bill.

But that, in turn, means that the ball is not selling at all.
So, then, Columbia, is probably near to "seeing the hand writing on the wall".
