Jekyll vs. original Wicked
« on: February 02, 2004, 08:45:36 PM »
I recently bought a Jekyll to go with my blue and white Wicked.  Both balls are drilled 3-3/8 x 3-3/8.  The Wicked gets a good roll on the backend and has been a very good ball for me.  I brought out the Jekyll and it was much stronger than my Wicked on the backend (almost angular once it hit the dry boards).  I can get a balance hole added to smooth out the reaction, but I want to try it out on different conditions before making that decision.
My question is this:  is my Wicked dying or dead?  I bought it about 1 year ago and it has probably seen 300+ games over that time.  The Jekyll shouldn't hook more than the Wicked.  Will refinishing the Wicked help?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Joe

Why shouldn't the Jekyll backend more than a Wicked? The Wicked will handle more oil than a pearl, the Jekyll. A pearl will always hook more (or appear to hook more) on its appropriate oil pattern. I'd suspect your Wicked can be used on heavier oil than you ae curently using it. On that heavier oil, the Wicked should hook more and the Jekyll should struggle to make the turn. This is a classic case of solid (even when it's polished) vs an apparently equivalent pearl.

IN THEORY, the Jekyll should take over when the Wicked won't clear the heads and/or the midlane. The Wicked should be used when the Jekyll is struggling on too much oil or on carrydown. They should be a pretty fair one-two combination, although the Jekyll/Hyde ot the Jekyll/Wicked B/R/T might be better. A slight scuffing of the Wicked's cover might make their differences easier to see.

The Wicked should work better than the Jekyll when there is more oil.  You say that you have more than 300 games on it.  Has it been bled and resurfaced?  I have found that the Jekyll is strong when there is some dry and can recover well.  It does need some head oilk and if there is carry down forget it put this one away.  The Wicked can handle more oil and carry down much better but if there is some dry it may be too much ball and if you are leaving flat 10's then the jekyll would be the ball to go to.

Should be a good arsenal.
