Maybe they are moving south next? I do have to say, I have seen video of Brunswicks factory in Mexico. It really is amazing.

Damn 45? I heard the demand for there products are down more than ever. I guess they have to foot the bill on Chris Barnes Contract.

What Columbia is doing is no different than any other company in the United States. If you guys didn't realize this is a industry that is shrinking every year. If Columbia had to make cuts for the better of their business then so be it. Would you rather have them increase the prices by 25% so they could keep the 45 that they had to let go? No because most everyone on this forum would just cry and complain about that too.

Try to be a little proactive towards the sport you love to play instead of being so negative, maybe it would help our sport move forward instead of being bashed all the time.

Down to one shift?  Wow, they must not have enough stuff to produce.  I mean, they only manufacture the following balls:
Columbia300
Track
AMF300
Circle
Dynothane (http://www.dynothane.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=62&Itemid=6)

Thanks, I knew I was forgetting something!

Don't forget, that Columbia spends millions on R&D:

quote:
Columbia 300, Inc. devotes millions of dollars and countless hours every year to its research and development activities. The result of this huge investment of time and money are bowling products which we believe are the finest, most technologically advanced products available.

As bowling balls are the exclusive product of Columbia, all research and development goes into the improvement of the striking sphere. Therefore, the company has gone all out for researching the physical properties which make for what the bowling fraternity calls "impact" and "mixing" of the pins. More recently such terms as radius of gyration, coefficient of restitution and amount of flare are factored into the manufacturing process. Research into every aspect of making a better ball for the bowler goes on every day at Columbia.

In our shop,  sales for columbia balls are doing very well.  the action attack
is among our top sellers.  the action max has actually picked up in sales since the attack came out.  scouts and white dots are doing very well.

and their bag line sells very well.   to me their track line is off a little here!!!,  wish we could get the strike machine!!!!! it sold well.

I don't think I've seen a columbia ball this year in northern indiana.  IMO there is a reason why.  I don't think their product performance is near what ebonite/hammer or storm is putting out.

I would hate to see Columbia go to Mexico too.  What a bummer.

But...

Chris Barnes has won more money than anyone else ever.  And you can too!

Do the math.

They don't make all Storm balls, only the Tropicals.  Maybe Jolts, I can't remember.  Lane 1 is new, and the only one they're making (now) is the HRG.  The rest is either still made by Big B or being phased out of production by Big B.

The Barnes contract is not guaranteed it is a performance based deal, he will make big bucks if he win's a certain number of stops or majors. So Barnes has nothing to do with people losing job's, it is probably just lack of sales period is my guess.

sorry you are correct only the low end stuff from storm is being made from Columbia.

as of the lane#1 product they are now in house in San Antonio...from what I've heard but regardless it's business and a company is going to do what they have to to survive.  If it is to make cuts then so be it.

Long Roller Columbia's stuff rolls much different than both of those company's, I think Columbia stuff just isn't the flavor of the year.  I bet if they were to "give" you a ball you would be happy to use it. As far as I know Columbia isn't as aggresive with giving stuff away like the leaders are. But I could be wrong.
