White dot vs. Blue Dot?

What is the difference between these? Both plastic and pancake cores?

I'm told the Blue Dot has an extra slip agent added to the coverstock.   Other than that, no difference.  Coverstocks between the two measure about the same on the durometer nowadays.

(I personally am a big fan of the OLD Blue Dots which measured around 86-90.  Talk about a Rock!)

In the "old days", the blue dot was MUCH harder. But in the past few years, there has been little, or NO, difference.

i believe the blue dot is harder so it will go a little straighter and hold up a bit better. i have had plastic balls in the past that just get beat up but the BD should resist that

Yeah, until they start to wear, get a track. Then they start hooking a lot. I had to sand mine to 4000 and then sand it with a white Trizact plus strong polish to get it not hook.

Blue Dot is a stronger hitting plastic than a White Dot, for whatever that's worth, when you have to use it as a strike ball.

I replaced my Blue Dot (original) with an Ice Storm. That ball skids about 75 feet, on any hint of oil.

old blue dots were harder and straighter than the white dots.. They are now the same ball from what I hear.

I just got an ice storm and that thing is as straight as an arrow.. havent hooked by the 10 pin yet. Actually had to adjust to throwing the ball straight. First few 10 pin attempt went right in the channel cause the ball just doesn't hook..

Not exactly.

Like the difference between pearls and solid resin balls, the Blue Dots are the same hardness but less elastic than White Dots, based on deformation of the surface when in contact with the lane.

Leastwise, that''s the way it was explained to me by Columbia.

That said, I also now use an Ice Storm. Not as good a strike ball as a Blue Dot but a very straight spare ball. Missed a 3/6/10 the other night that "frosted my cookies". I allowed for about a 1 board hook and the ball just skated a full 60 feet. Missed the 3 pin by a gnat''s eyelash. I was livid.

That's the difference when the "new" Blue Dot came out.

The old Original Blue Dot was a harder ball. But it was hard to make properly. The failure rate was too high.
